Preston turned to look at Officer Bennett.
The officer walked over and stated, “The incident occurred in a blind spot for the security cameras. However, a passing witness testified that this young woman did not lay a hand on her.”
Chloe gently arched an eyebrow.
She had to hand it to Jenna. Finding a camera blind spot in such a bustling commercial district actually took some talent.
But the so-called witness surprised her.
She had no idea why a random bystander would lie to protect her.
Hearing the officer's words, Jenna felt a sharp pain in her chest from sheer outrage.
“Are you police officers completely useless? I was beaten to a pulp, and you can't even find a single piece of security footage?”
She had lost all reason. “What witness? They're clearly in on it together! Can't you see that? Are you trying to cover for them?”
Officer Bennett's expression hardened. “Miss, I highly suggest you watch your tone!”
Preston quickly pulled Jenna back. “Enough, Jenna. You're hurt. Let me take you to the hospital first, and we can sort this out later.”
Jenna sobbed uncontrollably. “Preston, do you believe me or not? Tell me, who do you believe—me or Chloe?”
Preston looked over at Chloe.
From the very beginning, she had remained perfectly detached, watching the drama unfold like a disinterested spectator.
She hadn't even looked him in the eye.
Preston lowered his gaze and offered a soothing reply. “Of course I believe you.”
“Alright, be good. Let's get those wounds treated first.”
Naturally, Jenna wasn't about to let things go that easily.
But just then, Chloe finally spoke up.
“Officer Bennett, I have a habit of carrying a digital voice recorder with me. Would this be helpful as evidence?”
As she spoke, she pulled a sleek recording device from her designer bag.
Jenna's eyes nearly bulged out of her head.
She never expected Chloe to be this ruthless. She had actually secretly recorded their conversation!
She had only been running her mouth in a fit of rage, wanting to see Chloe suffer. She dreaded to think what would happen if Preston actually heard the vile things she had said.
After all, she had seen with her own eyes just how unhinged Preston had become over that stupid dog!
