As she was ranting, Belle suddenly gasped.
"Wait! Chloe, come look! Is that Preston's car parked downstairs?"
Chloe walked over to the window and looked down. Sure enough, Preston's Maserati was sitting right outside the hotel entrance.
He had followed her anyway!
Belle scowled deeply. "This is getting creepy. He probably knows you're flying out and is trying to trap you here!"
She seethed. "Jenna pulled all this malicious crap, and he’s out here harassing you? Does he think you're just an easy target? I'm going down there to give him a piece of my mind!"
Chloe grabbed her arm. "Ignore him. Let’s just go to sleep. We have an early flight to catch."
Belle still looked uneasy. "But... what if he just camps out there all night?"
Chloe said calmly, "I checked when I got here. There's a back exit we can use in the morning."
"Oh, thank god."
With that sorted, Belle let it go. They were both exhausted, and after a quick wash, they climbed into their respective beds and fell asleep.
...
The sky was just beginning to turn gray.
Preston's phone suddenly rang.
"Incoming call from the coolest, hottest boss in the world, hurry up and answer..."
The obnoxious, upbeat ringtone shattered the tranquil silence of the early morning.
For the first time, Preston found the sound incredibly grating.
He rejected the call and quickly switched his ringtone back to the default setting.
A moment later, Ken called back. "Mr. Hayes, Miss Cameron refused the transfer to the branch office..."
This was exactly what Preston expected.
"Proceed with the plan. Whatever demands she has, accommodate them."
Ken hesitated, his voice sounding deeply conflicted. "Miss Cameron... tendered her resignation."
Preston froze.
