The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 46

Jenna clenched her fists tight. "Preston, you care so much about her. You must really love her, right?"

Preston stayed silent for a moment before his tone turned rigid. "She saved my life. I can't just abandon her."

Hearing that answer finally allowed Jenna to breathe a sigh of relief.

She knew Preston too well. He was a man driven by a profound sense of duty. Whether it was marrying Chloe in the first place or refusing the divorce now, it was all out of guilt and responsibility. It had never been about love.

Having figured that out, instead of convincing Preston to sign the papers, she played into his mindset and urged him on.

"Preston, I bet she doesn't actually want to divorce you either. Pulling a stunt like today, she's probably just trying to make you jealous by parading another man around, testing your limits. She keeps using divorce to threaten you, and that's no way to solve things. You can't let yourself go soft. If you stay firm and show her where you stand, she'll stop throwing these tantrums."

Preston's expression softened slightly. "You're right. There's no way she could ever leave me."

...

As Chloe walked out, she bumped right into a familiar figure.

The man smiled and greeted her first. "Ms. Reed."

Chloe recognized him as Ethan Hill, Quentin's assistant, and was about to reply when Quentin walked up from behind her.

"Mr... Mr. Shaw, where are you heading?" Ethan instinctively almost called him Boss, but hastily corrected himself.

Quentin's gaze landed on Chloe's slightly pale face. He clearly had questions, but ultimately just said, "You worked hard today. I'll take you back."

Chloe shook her head, her tone filled with apology and gratitude.

"I should be the one thanking you. You've helped me so much today. I'm not going back to the house. Could you drop me off at a nearby hotel instead?"

She would be leaving Sterling Bay for good in a month. Renting an apartment for such a short time was impractical, so a hotel made the most sense after the divorce.

As for the properties in Preston's name, she hadn't considered them for a second. In the divorce settlement, she would only take exactly what she was owed.
