The first staff member had no choice but to offer Jenna a reluctant apology.
Jenna scoffed. "Can I stay here now?"
The second employee kept his sycophantic smile in place. "Of course! Absolutely!"
Jenna cast a triumphant glance at Chloe. "Everything is first come, first served. You'll just have to go find yourself another lounge!"
As if recalling another hilarious joke, she sneered. "Actually, I think it's best you just head home. Given your disability, you really aren't cut out for the workforce! The organizers were way too careless when hiring. I'll have to file a complaint about this later."
The fawning staff member immediately marched up to Chloe, his tone dropping. "Miss, assistants don't get their own private lounges. Please leave!"
Right on cue, Quentin Shaw's call came through.
Chloe answered it calmly. "Chloe, I'm waiting for you in the interpreter's booth. You can head over now."
Chloe gave a soft hum of acknowledgment, hung up, and turned to walk out.
To the others, however, it looked as though she was slinking away in defeat.
Jenna covered her mouth to hide her giggles, while Percival's expression remained dark and stormy.
But Preston stared at her retreating silhouette. His gaze turned somber, swimming with complex emotions.
They hadn't seen each other in days, yet she seemed to have lost so much weight...
...
Chloe pocketed her "Assistant" badge and pulled out her "Simultaneous Interpreter" credentials.
Even though Preston had agreed to the divorce, an underlying sense of unease still gnawed at her.
To avoid any unnecessary complications, she had specifically prepared two different IDs.
She quickly arrived at the main hall. Catching sight of the interpreter's booth in the distance, she froze in her tracks.
Once upon a time, that tiny glass box had been the only place she felt completely safe—a place where she could focus entirely on being herself.
Now, just standing outside it, her palms were unconsciously slick with sweat.
Chloe took a deep breath. She was just about to push the door open when Preston's voice sounded from behind her.
