It wasn't like him. Before, he would always praise her whenever she dressed up.
She was about to ask if he was stressed about work when she saw him leave the living room. Her parents and relatives were waiting for Yulen to join them so they could start dinner. Tallulah quickly followed him.
Yulen was on the terrace, calling the housekeeper. "Is Winona home?"
"She just got back," Cora replied, "but she didn't look well. She skipped dinner."
Tallulah overheard him and was deeply annoyed. Yulen had been paying far too much attention to Winona lately. Had Winona’s threat to leave just been a calculated move to get his attention again?
It seemed the bitch had succeeded!
Right now, Tallulah wanted nothing more than to destroy her.
When the dinner began, Tallulah noticed Yulen wasn't eating much, so she put some fish on his plate.
Yulen sipped his juice but didn't touch his silverware. He gave only perfunctory replies when the Shipleys spoke to him.
Even Tallulah's father, Zelig Shipley, noticed his distraction and felt a flicker of annoyance. If his company didn't need the Locke family's help, he never would have agreed to Yulen's ridiculous demand for Tallulah to be his secret wife.
Seeing her father's displeasure and fearing he might say something harsh, Tallulah said to Yulen, "Didn't you say you have an important overseas conference call tonight? Maybe you should head back."
Yulen, already eager to leave, said to the others, "Then I'll have to excuse myself."
After Yulen left, Zelig asked Tallulah, "Didn't you say Yulen doted on you and would announce your relationship soon? When is that going to happen?"
He was itching to use his status as Yulen's father-in-law to pull in resources and connections, but with the marriage still a secret, his hands were tied. While Yulen did throw some business the Shipleys' way, it was hardly enough.
Winona took a deep breath, not wanting to fight with him. She was exhausted. "No. I just don't have an appetite."
Her explanation seemed to placate him.
"Is your stomach bothering you? Should we see a doctor?"
Winona shook her head. "No, I'll be fine after some rest."
"I'll get your pajamas," Yulen said thoughtfully. "You should take a shower and get some rest."
He turned to go to the walk-in closet, then paused. "I remember your period is usually very regular, and it's not due now. Is something wrong? Maybe you should get checked out at a hospital?"
