He thought he was doing what was best for her, but hearing him tell her to quit her job again, Winona felt a surge of anger. Did he really want to strip away her freedom and keep her trapped in the life he chose for her?
Yulen was so selfish.
Winona refused. "I have no intention of resigning at the moment."
Yulen sighed in frustration. "Is working really that great? Haven't you noticed your colleagues are isolating you? Don't you feel stressed in that kind of environment? Wouldn’t it be easier to just stay home and live comfortably?"
Before, when she didn't know he had deceived her into marriage, she might have actually believed he was just being caring and doting. But not anymore.
"Yulen, please don't interfere with my work."
Yulen felt she was always being stubborn about meaningless things. What was so great about a thankless job that made her unhappy?
Just then, a janitor pushing a cart passed by and accidentally bumped into Winona.
Winona stumbled, falling right into Yulen's arms. He steadied her, wrapping an arm around her waist to protect her.
Eloise, coming out of the restroom, saw them embracing and narrowed her eyes.
Was Winona seriously making a move on Yulen? She had some nerve!
Once she regained her balance, Winona pushed herself out of Yulen's embrace.
"Are you okay?" Yulen asked.
Winona smoothed her hair. "I'm fine."
Not wanting to get entangled with him any further, she turned and walked back toward their private dining room. She saw Eloise standing nearby, watching her with a disdainful look, but she paid it no mind.
Back in the room, Eloise told Tallulah all about how Winona had been seducing Yulen. Tallulah's face immediately darkened, and she shot a glare at Winona. But Winona, seemingly oblivious to her anger, kept eating as if nothing had happened. This only made Tallulah even more furious.
Corin noticed Tallulah's stare and asked Winona, "I see Tallulah glaring at you. Are you two not on good terms?"
Winona was still waiting for a ride when she saw Stefan emerge from the restaurant. He appeared to be drunk, leaning on his driver for support as they walked toward the curb.
Spotting Winona, the driver's eyes lit up. "Ms. Jowett, could you help Mr. Goddard into the car for a moment? He left his phone in the private room, and I need to go back and get it."
A man of Stefan's status would have countless secrets on his phone; losing it would be a disaster.
Understanding the gravity of the situation, Winona nodded and moved to support Stefan.
He was heavier than he looked, and when he leaned on her shoulder, she nearly lost her footing. Still, she managed to guide him into the back of the Maybach.
By the time she had him settled in the back seat, a thin layer of sweat coated her skin.
She sat beside Stefan, waiting for the driver to return.
Noticing a faint flush on Stefan's cold, handsome face, Winona reached out to loosen his tie and the top button of his shirt to make him more comfortable.
