The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 125

She barely managed to steady herself by grabbing the edge of a table, but the juice in her hand spilled everywhere.

When she turned around, she saw Tallulah glaring at her.

Without a second thought, Winona slapped her across the face.

A red handprint immediately appeared on Tallulah’s pale cheek. She shrieked, "Winona, how dare you hit me? Aren't you afraid I'll tell Yulen?"

Winona just smiled. "The Lockes are all busy entertaining Mrs. Powell right now. You know as well as I do that they don't want her finding out about you. If you go make a scene, who do you think will be the one who ends up embarrassed?"

Unable to argue, Tallulah's face turned crimson, her voice growing shriller. "They’re only being nice to you because they need you to win Mrs. Powell over. Once she leaves Riverton, you'll be worthless. Who will be on your side then?"

Winona's expression remained placid. "And you think the Lockes genuinely like you? The only thing they value about you is the fact that you can give them a child. So how does that make you any better?"

Tallulah's eyes welled up with tears of rage.

Without another glance, Winona turned and left. She got another glass of juice and found a quiet spot to sit down and rest.

A housekeeper approached her, saying that Willow wanted to see her in the study.

When she entered the study, she found Camille was there as well.

Winona was still wondering what they were up to when Camille spoke. "Winona, Wynne will be in Riverton for about a week. I want you to spend time with her whenever you're free."

"Why?" Winona asked. She had a job and couldn't just drop everything. While Wynne had been kind to her, it wasn't enough to make her sacrifice her work.

Camille explained, "Our company has always collaborated with Powell Group. Last month, we wanted to move forward on a new project with them, but our proposal was rejected. I want you to convince Mrs. Powell to help us reopen talks on the project."

But she refused to be manipulated forever. "I can help," she said, "but I want a written agreement. After I help you this one time, you can no longer use my aunt and grandmother to threaten me into doing things I don't want to do."

"Of course," Camille agreed instantly.

It was just a piece of paper. If Winona wanted to sign it, fine. Given her background, there were plenty of other ways to control her.

The lawyer drafted the agreement and sent it over. Camille had a housekeeper print it out.

Two copies were printed. Camille signed them first.

Winona read the document carefully. Once she confirmed there were no hidden clauses, she signed her name.
