The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 126

Willow snidely remarked, "My, how the times have changed. A daughter-in-law who lives off the family, can’t even have kids, and now wants to negotiate before helping out? You really do know how to play your cards, don’t you?"

Ignoring her, Winona folded her copy of the agreement and prepared to leave. "I will do my best regarding the Powell Group project. But I expect you to honor your promise and not harass my family."

After she left, Willow complained to Camille, "Why are you so indulgent with her? Why did you actually agree to sign that? Does she really have the heart to not help Yulen?"

Camille sighed. "Mom, haven't you noticed that Winona has changed a lot lately?"

Willow thought for a moment. "Her temper seems to have gotten worse. Yulen probably spoiled her."

Seeing that her mother was completely oblivious to Winona's growing desire to leave, Camille didn't bother explaining further. Winona was still useful to the company, so it was better to keep her with the Locke family for now. However, she made a mental note to warn Tallulah to stay out of company affairs to avoid causing more trouble. Without Winona's skills, the more Tallulah did, the more mistakes she would make.

Winona returned to the banquet hall. As she scanned the room, she noticed someone watching her. She looked over and saw a young woman with a refined, beautiful face.

When the woman saw Winona looking back, her eyes held a trace of arrogance before she turned and walked away.

After marrying Yulen, Winona had become very familiar with that kind of look. It was the same look Yulen's three sisters and their socialite friends gave her—the kind of look people gave someone they considered beneath them. Winona didn't care what they thought. She knew that only those who were insecure inside needed to put others down to feel superior.

Just then, a housekeeper approached her again, saying Wynne was looking for her. She went back to the lounge, where the same arrogant young woman was now present.

Wynne smiled and made the introductions. "Winona, this is my daughter, Ophelia. You're both around the same age, so this is a great chance for you to get to know each other."

So this was Wynne's adopted daughter. Winona had expected Ophelia to maintain her haughty attitude, but instead, she extended a hand with a warm smile. "So you're Winona. You're so beautiful."

Her praise sounded sincere, but Winona caught the disdain in her eyes. It was clear she was just maintaining a graceful and obedient persona for Wynne's benefit.

As everyone began to sing the birthday song, Winona stood quietly to the side. Suddenly, she heard a cry of alarm from Ophelia, who had stumbled into the corner of a table, sending a wine bottle crashing to the floor.

Glass shattered everywhere.

Ophelia's leg was covered in blood.

While Winona was still processing what happened, Ophelia looked at her, her face a mask of shock and disbelief.

Beside them, Paige's voice rang out, sharp and accusing:

"Winona, why did you push Ophelia?"
