The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 140

It had been like this for the past few days. It seemed they were trying to make up for their previous coldness, going out of their way to be nice to her.

Winona wasn't one for big crowds, but they were her colleagues, and she didn't want to seem standoffish, so she agreed to go with them.

Just as they reached the elevators, they ran into Stefan, Ophelia, Nolan, and a few other executives. Nolan smiled when he saw them. "Perfect timing. Mr. Goddard is treating us all to lunch. You should join us. It'll be a good chance for him to hear about the project's R&D progress."

An invitation from Mr. Goddard himself was something no one would refuse. The elevator couldn't fit everyone, so Stefan, Ophelia, Nolan, and the other executives went down first.

As Winona and her colleagues waited, one of the Goddard Group employees started gossiping. "Don't you think Ms. Powell and Mr. Goddard make a perfect couple?"

"Haha, I was just thinking the same thing!" another chimed in. "It's not just that their families are a perfect match. Ms. Powell is one of the most renowned talents in the capital. She's won numerous international awards and is accomplished in everything from the arts to sports. Only a woman of such grace and substance could be a match for Mr. Goddard."

"I've seen pictures of them together from our head office," someone else added. "Everyone is rooting for them. I wonder when we'll hear wedding bells."

Winona listened to their chatter without joining in. It didn't affect her. It was perfectly normal for a powerful man like Stefan to choose an equally outstanding heiress like Ophelia. It was a union of powerhouses.

During lunch, Ophelia let out a delicate sneeze. Stefan passed her a pack of tissues, and she thanked him with a smile. Stefan just gave a slight nod and continued eating.

Seeing this simple interaction, the employees in the work group chat began buzzing about the couple again.

In the cramped space of the elevator, the familiar scent of his cologne filled the air, and she couldn't help but blush as she remembered the night they had spent together. The silence stretched between them, thick with awkwardness.

Desperate to break it, Winona searched for a topic. "Mr. Goddard, about the jacket you lent me... I've had it dry-cleaned. Is it alright if I leave it in your car with your driver next time?"

Giving it to him at the office would surely cause gossip. The driver seemed like the safest option.

Stefan gave her a cool, measured look. "Just bring it to my house," he said, his voice unhurried. "You know the code, don't you?"

Winona was so taken aback by his response that she didn't know how to reply. Did he really want her to come to his house? Wasn't he afraid Ophelia would get the wrong idea?
