Listening to their conversation, Winona finally understood the full extent of the relationship between Stefan and Ophelia.

She remembered Stefan telling her that his kindness toward her had an ulterior motive and that she shouldn't take it to heart. Now it all made sense. He was just using her to provoke Ophelia, to lure her to Riverton.

The realization left a bitter taste in her mouth. From now on, she decided, she would keep her distance from Stefan and refuse to be a pawn in their game.

Rhea glanced at Winona's expression and said softly, "You know, what they're saying might not even be true."

Winona forced a smile. "Whether it's true or not has nothing to do with me."

She excused herself to the restroom. On her way back, she passed a private dining room and suddenly heard Ophelia's laughter from within.

"Stefan, I can't eat another bite. Stop putting food on my plate."

Winona dug her nails into her palm and walked quickly away.

Inside the room, Lachlan Powell watched Winona's retreating figure before turning to his sister. "Sis, are you sure this little stunt of yours is actually working?"

Ophelia took a slow sip of red wine. "Of course it is. A woman like her values her pride above all else. She's much easier to deal with than a shameless creature like Maeve Mallory."

"In that case, you should help me figure out a way to finally get her into bed," Lachlan said.

Ophelia scoffed. "You've been doing this for years. You really need my advice now?"
