Winona stepped forward. “I’m Winona Jowett,” she told the receptionist. “I have a three o’clock appointment with Victor. Could you please let him know I’m here?”
Upon hearing her name, the receptionist’s face broke into a smile. “No need. Victor already left instructions. Ms. Jowett, please follow me.”
With that, she began to lead Winona toward the elevators.
Tallulah couldn’t believe it. She blocked the receptionist’s path. “If she can go in, why can’t I?”
The receptionist’s patience was wearing thin. “Ms. Shipley, please contact Victor to schedule an appointment before coming here. If you continue to disrupt my work, I’ll have to call security.”
Tallulah didn’t dare make a scene at Powell Group. She shot Winona a venomous glare before turning and leaving in humiliation.
When Victor saw Winona, his attitude was much warmer than before. “Ms. Jowett, welcome.”
Winona shook his hand and explained with a smile, “I previously served as the R&D Director for the Locke Group. While this project wouldn’t normally fall to me, the Locke Group commissioned me to handle it, so I felt it was my duty to accept.”
Victor had heard from Wynne that Winona had a close relationship with the Locke family. Though he didn’t know the specifics, he figured if they trusted her with the project, he had no reason to object.
As they discussed the project details, his admiration for her grew. Victor wasn’t a complete novice in R&D, which was why he was so strict with his project reviews. He found Winona’s thinking to be incredibly clear, and she even offered insights that inspired him.
He decided to extend an olive branch. “Ms. Jowett, you’re so young, yet your expertise in R&D is truly impressive. Since you no longer work for the Locke Group, would you consider a position at our Powell Group headquarters?”
Winona shook her head, declining politely. “Thank you for the generous offer, Victor, but I’m already working in Professor Jericho Harper’s lab. I’m only helping the Locke Group this time because of a personal connection.”
Victor was stunned. “You’re a member of Mr. Harper’s lab?”
