Seeing Winona’s pained expression, Yulen was filled with self-reproach. He had been impulsive; he never meant to hurt her. But the moment he saw someone else pursuing her, he couldn’t control his rage. He hated the feeling of her slipping from his grasp.
At the same time, he worried that she might be swayed by another, better suitor. The thought that he could lose her was a possibility he refused to accept.
Ophelia, arriving for a follow-up appointment, spotted Stefan’s car. She raised an eyebrow and went inside to find him, but her expression turned cold when she saw him with Winona.
“Stefan,” she said, walking over. “What are you two doing here?”
“Ms. Jowett was injured. I brought her here,” Stefan explained.
Yulen, though displeased, managed to restrain himself. “Mr. Goddard, Winona and I are husband and wife. I can take care of her. If you have other things to do, feel free to leave.”
Stefan sneered. “Mr. Locke, you were just abusing her and terrifying a child. I couldn't just stand by. If I leave, what’s to stop you from bullying her again?”
The tension between them was thick enough to cut with a knife when Winona’s phone rang. It was Nikita.
“Greta just called me in tears,” Nikita said, her voice filled with worry. “She said Yulen hurt you. Are you injured?”
Not wanting to worry the old woman, Winona forced a smile and pushed through the emotional and physical pain. “I’m fine. Greta’s just a child and didn’t explain it clearly, which is why you misunderstood. Yulen and I just had a heated misunderstanding. You know how intense things can get sometimes. Don’t worry.”
Hearing Winona’s words, Yulen breathed a sigh of relief. As long as she wasn’t angry, everything was fine. He knew she would forgive him.
