The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 196

Back in his study, Stefan called his grandmother, Violet.

Violet was still awake, binge-watching a TV show, so she was surprised to get his call.

She huffed into the phone. "So you finally remembered to call me? You've been in Riverton all this time on business, and you'd rather stay somewhere else than with me. I knew you were getting tired of your old grandmother."

"It's not that at all," Stefan said calmly. "I'm living across the hall from Winona."

Violet’s eyes instantly lit up. "Well, you're a clever one, knowing that proximity is the best advantage. So, how is it going? When are you going to bring my granddaughter-in-law home? I’ve checked your horoscopes, and you and Winona are a perfect match. She's your soulmate!"

After a pause, Violet asked, "But what did you call me for, anyway?"

"Grandma, Mother arranged for Bess to come stay with me. Do you have a way to make her leave?"

Violet immediately knew it was one of her daughter-in-law's bright ideas. She couldn't understand what spell Ophelia had cast on her, making her so fond of the girl. Ophelia had once been engaged to Evander, and now she was getting mixed up with Stefan. What a mess. Everyone praised Ophelia for being smarter and more sensible than Maeve, but in Violet's eyes, neither of them was a suitable wife for Stefan.

"Alright, leave it to me," Violet declared. "I won't let Bess get in the way of you winning over Winona."

With Violet on the case, Stefan felt a sense of relief.

After hanging up with Stefan, Violet called Bess and ordered her to come back to the main villa to make some soup for her.
