Winona lowered her gaze. "It's nothing. Just give me the things."
Her voice was hoarse, and Stefan pressed, "Are you sure you're okay?"
"I'm fine," she mumbled, taking the bag from him and starting to close the door.
Since she was clearly unwilling to confide in him, Stefan didn't push it and turned to leave.
Winona placed the cans on the table just as her phone rang. It was Yulen.
She hesitated for a moment before answering.
"Winona, are you trying to transfer Nikita to another hospital? Why?"
Winona was stunned that he knew so quickly. Could Yulen be monitoring her phone? She suppressed her rage and resentment. "I was just about to discuss it with you. I believe my grandmother's sudden critical turn is related to this hospital's medical team, so I wanted to move her."
Yulen had been worried she had discovered something else. Hearing her reason, he breathed a sigh of relief. He had already instructed his assistant to warn every major hospital in Riverton not to admit Nikita, so he knew her transfer attempts would fail.
"If you're worried about the medical team, I can bring in other specialists to treat Nikita. In her current state, a hasty transfer would only hinder her recovery."
Winona dug her nails into her palm. "You're right, Yulen. But I'm curious, why couldn't I complete the transfer procedures? Is it a problem with my phone, or the hospital's system?"
