The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 210

Returning to the table, Winona poured fresh coffee for both Wynne and Ophelia.

Wynne watched her with a fond smile. "The weather has been so crisp lately, make sure you're bundling up. And please, try to eat proper, home-cooked meals instead of always getting takeout. If you're too busy to cook, I can have my housekeeper drop off dinners for you."

Knowing she wouldn't be staying in Riverton for much longer, Wynne felt an overwhelming urge to dote on her.

Winona felt a lump form in her throat. Compared to Blythe, Wynne acted far more like a real mother to her.

However, she knew better than to overstep her bounds. The Powells were high-society elites; a girl from a working-class background like hers had no business getting too comfortable in their world.

"Oh, please don't trouble yourself," Winona replied warmly. "I've been working over at the Goddard Group lately, and I grab lunch at their corporate cafeteria. The food is incredible and really healthy."

Seeing that Winona had politely declined, Wynne smiled and didn't push the matter further.

Watching the easy, affectionate dynamic between them, Ophelia felt entirely left out. Beneath the table, her hands clenched into tight fists.

After finishing their meal, the trio headed toward the exit. Suddenly, a man in a sharp tailored suit walked right into their path.

It was Sylvan Scully. He had originally come to the restaurant to meet an old friend, but spotting Wynne was a complete shock. His face instantly lit up.

"Wynne!"

Wynne treated him like gum on the bottom of her shoe. Without so much as a second glance, she breezed right past him and power-walked out the door.

Winona quickly hurried after her.

Ophelia, however, lingered behind and greeted him with a polite, soft-spoken smile. "Mr. Scully."

Sylvan's face fell as he watched Wynne leave, but he quickly masked his disappointment. "Ophelia. Your mother seems to be in high spirits. That's a relief."

Ophelia smiled sweetly. "Yes, Mr. Scully. You don't need to worry. As long as I'm taking care of her, I'll make sure she stays perfectly healthy."

Sylvan let out a heavy sigh. "It's a blessing she has such a thoughtful daughter by her side. I owe you my thanks, Ophelia."

"Oh, please, you're too kind. My mother has given me everything. Taking care of her is the least I can do."

Sylvan's mind flashed back to the girl who had been glued to Wynne's side just moments ago. His brow creased.

"Why on earth was your mother having dinner with Winona? That girl is bad news."

Ophelia sighed theatrically. "You know how it is. Winona is incredibly manipulative, and she has my mother completely fooled. I didn't want to gossip, but... I heard a rumor today that Winona had her own biological mother thrown in jail over a petty argument. It terrifies me to think about what a person like that might eventually do to my mom..."
