Stefan had just wrapped up a meeting at the Northville branch when his mother called.
Margaret's tone was icy. "I hear you've met a girl in Riverton. Are you planning to marry her, or is she just a fling?"
Stefan frowned. "That is my personal business."
Margaret scoffed. "Your marriage is the business of the Goddard family. Do you honestly believe it's just your personal affair? If you want to play around, I don't care. But when it comes to marriage, you will listen to me. Even if you choose not to marry Ophelia, you cannot settle for a woman who brings less to the table than she does. Otherwise, I will absolutely never give my blessing."
Stefan's eyes darkened.

"Stefan—"

With the research and development project officially entering clinical trials, the dynamic between Winona and the members of the Goddard Group and Jericho Lab had shifted dramatically. They were incredibly respectful toward her now, naturally treating her as the lead director of the team.
The team from Locke Group, however, still held onto their prejudices. They stubbornly believed that Winona's brilliant professional insights were simply being fed to her by Jericho behind the scenes.
Hearing that the project had made significant headway, Tallulah showed up at the Goddard Group offices to snoop around.
As soon as she walked in, she saw members from both Goddard Group and Jericho Lab crowded around Winona. They were looking at her with sparkling eyes and absolute adoration, treating her as if she were a once-in-a-generation prodigy.
Tallulah sneered and walked closer, trying to eavesdrop on their conversation.
In the past, she had been able to keep up with the R&D progress. But lately, distracted by her chaotic personal life, she had missed crucial developments. Listening to them now, it all sounded like a foreign language.
Watching Winona speak with such effortless confidence while everyone nodded in eager agreement fueled Tallulah's bubbling resentment.
If it weren't for this pregnancy making me sick, and all the drama with Locke Group and my family holding me back, I could be the one leading this team, she thought bitterly.
I should be the one getting all this admiration and respect today.
