The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 243

Seeing that he wasn't going to comfort her, Tallulah felt a surge of bitter resentment.

But she didn't dare throw a tantrum. She was genuinely terrified of pushing Yulen too far. What if he got sick of her and stopped coming home altogether?

Even though they were legally married, she still didn't feel like she had a solid grip on his heart.

Her war with Winona was going to be a long game. She needed to be patient. She couldn't rush it.

Forcing a sweet, understanding smile, she softened her voice. "Yulen, if you're tired, why don't you head up and rest?"

Yulen gave a noncommittal hum, stood up, and headed straight for his study.

Swallowing her pride, Tallulah laid the charm on thicker. "I'll have the chef prepare something warm and bring it up to you shortly."

Yulen didn't respond, simply shutting the study door behind him.

He had already thought of the perfect person to connect him with Dr. Dawson.

Dialing the number, he spoke with the utmost respect. "Mr. Powell, it's Yulen. I'm calling to ask for a favor. A senior member of my family has fallen critically ill, and we're hoping to bring Dr. Dawson over from abroad for the surgery. I was wondering if you might be able to help put me in touch with him?"

Thanks to Mrs. Powell's prior introductions, Yulen had become acquainted with Mr. Powell. He always sent polite greetings during the holidays and regularly checked in on the older man's health.

He had never once asked Mr. Powell for a favor.

He knew how the game was played—the more favors you called in, the thinner the relationship wore.

Because this was his first request, Mr. Powell agreed without hesitation.

"Alright. I'll reach out to Dr. Dawson and see what his availability looks like."

Mr. Powell loved his wife dearly, and since the Locke family had done his wife a good turn in the past, he was willing to extend this courtesy.

"Thank you so much, Mr. Powell."

Yulen breathed a sigh of relief, quickly expressing his gratitude.

Yet, a part of him felt a twinge of regret. Using his one major favor with Mr. Powell for Nikita's illness meant he was now in the man's debt. If a business crisis ever arose, asking for another lifeline would be much harder.

He just hoped Winona would soften her attitude once she realized what he had sacrificed for her.

Standing outside the study door, Tallulah had eavesdropped on the entire conversation.

Her nails dug into her palms.

When he finally managed to get a hold of the doctor, Dawson claimed he was entirely booked for the foreseeable future and couldn't possibly fly to Riverton.

Disappointed, Jericho had no choice but to hang up.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

He opened it to find Stefan standing on his porch.

Jericho raised an eyebrow and chuckled. "Bad timing, my boy. Winona just left. If you had gotten here a bit earlier, you could have joined us for dinner."

Stefan looked like he was on a tight schedule, a sleek suitcase resting beside him.

"Just dropping by to see you before my flight back to the capital."

Jericho stepped aside to let him in. "Haven't spoken to Winona lately? She didn't mention you at all today. Did you two have a fight?"

"No," Stefan replied, rubbing the back of his neck, looking unusually exhausted. "Just been buried in work. Once I clear this up in a few days, I'll explain everything to her."

His uncle had been breathing down his neck recently, and some internal chaos had erupted at the Goddard Group. He needed absolute focus to fight this corporate war with his uncle.

He just needed his rivals to make one wrong move, and he could take them all down permanently.
