The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 242

Winona let out a harsh, sarcastic laugh. "Of course I do. He is infinitely more trustworthy than you."

Yulen choked, momentarily speechless.

He realized that continuing down this path would only spark another pointless argument. Since Winona was set on handling Nikita's hospital transfer her way, he would let it go for now.

Clearing his throat, he pivoted to something else. "I'm just as worried about Nikita's health as you are. I saw the news recently about an overseas specialist, Dr. Dawson, who successfully performed liver transplants on two elderly patients. I'm planning to invite him to Riverton to operate on Nikita."

He fully expected Winona's eyes to light up with excitement and gratitude, but her expression remained completely detached.

"I know about him. But I don't need your help."

She planned to ask Mr. Harper for assistance. If that didn't work out, she would reach out to Mr. Falconer or Mr. Winslow.

Yulen frowned in frustration. "Stop being so stubborn. Nikita's health has to come first. You simply don't have the connections to get an audience with Dr. Dawson."

"Just focus on your work and your life with Tallulah," Winona replied coldly. "I don't need you anymore. Now, can I leave?"

Every single time she had desperately needed his help in the past, he hadn't just failed her—he had driven a knife through her heart.

She no longer held a single expectation when it came to Yulen.

Before Yulen could say another word, Winona opened the car door and walked away.

Staring at her retreating figure, Yulen felt a sharp, suffocating sting in his chest. A dense, overwhelming ache made it hard to breathe.

She really had changed.

Gripping the steering wheel tightly, Yulen forced himself to take a deep breath and regain his composure.

The most important thing right now was securing Dr. Dawson. As long as Nikita was cured, he knew the old woman would push them back together. Winona wouldn't be able to stay away.

He drove back to the house he shared with Tallulah.

Tallulah was waiting by the door. The moment he walked in, she clung intimately to his arm.

"Yulen, what took you so long?"

She studied his face closely, searching for any trace of anger or heartbreak.

Tallulah looked at him, her eyes brimming with red-rimmed, wounded tears.

Under her tearful gaze, a fleeting moment of guilt pricked Yulen's conscience. But he quickly shoved it aside.

Back then, Tallulah had sworn she didn't mind being his secret mistress. Later, when they got married, she promised she would never let Winona find out.

Since she had made her choices, playing the tragic, wronged victim now was entirely unnecessary.

Yulen was willing to indulge her when he was in a good mood, but that didn't mean he was going to walk on eggshells around her 24/7.

He had his own frustrations to deal with. Tallulah's job was to be the perfect, agreeable wife and make his life easier. If he had to constantly cater to her emotional needs, what was even the point of being with her?

After all, he wasn't the one who had begged to be together in the first place.

He didn't owe her anything.

A man of his status didn't need to pander to any woman's temper.
