Stefan’s expression turned remarkably cold. "Ignore it."

Winona looked at him in surprise. His dismissal of Ophelia was downright ruthless.

Almost immediately, Stefan’s phone began ringing again. This time, it was Margaret.

His mother’s voice was icy and sharp over the line. "Stefan, do you have no heart? Ophelia has sacrificed so much for our family. How can you just abandon her when she needs you?"

"Is there anything else?" Stefan asked flatly.

Margaret was trembling with rage. "Ophelia's well-being is the most important thing right now—"

Stefan hung up the phone.

Winona was even more stunned. He had actually hung up on his own mother.

She couldn't help but ask, "Are you sure you don't need to check on Ms. Powell?"

After all, Ophelia had taken a knife meant for Margaret, resulting in a deep wound. Putting herself in his shoes, if someone had taken a knife for her grandmother, she would absolutely feel obligated to care for them.

Stefan offered a cynical smile. "I'm not a doctor. What good would it do if I went? Besides, what she wants isn't just my care, and I have no intention of fulfilling her real desires. It’s better for both of us if I stay away."

Winona stared at him, slightly dazed.

Stefan walked over and gently smoothed a hand over her hair. "Go to sleep. I’ll wake you in an hour."

Under his intense, quiet gaze, Winona slowly closed her eyes.

Watching her long lashes flutter, Stefan knew that if he stayed in the room, she would never be able to relax. Without another word, he stepped out and quietly closed the door behind him.

Winona had thought she’d be too hyper-aware to sleep in Stefan’s bed. But the sheer exhaustion from the previous night pulled her under, and soon enough, she was fast asleep, wrapped in the scent of him.

Downstairs, Stefan casually recounted his mother's latest antics to Violet.
