The caregiver hesitantly reached for the bathroom door handle.
Just before her fingers made contact, a nurse marched into the room, glaring at them. "Excuse me, which room are you supposed to be in? You need to return to your own ward immediately!"
Yulen refused to budge. "Was there someone in this room earlier?"
"The patient was discharged," the nurse snapped, out of patience. "Please leave so the cleaning staff can sanitize the room."
The caregiver looked at Yulen pleadingly. "Mr. Locke, maybe we should go back."
Another sharp cramp seized Yulen’s stomach, turning his face a shade paler. Suppressing a groan, he finally relented. "Let's go."
Once she was sure Yulen was gone, Winona let out a long breath of relief. However, with the nurse and the cleaning staff right outside, walking out of the bathroom now would be mortifying.
As if reading her mind, Stefan pulled out his phone with his good hand and dialed his security team.
A few minutes later, the hallway outside went completely silent.
"They're gone. We can go now," he murmured.
Her face burning red, Winona refused to look at him as she opened the door and hurried out.
When they arrived back at his apartment building, Winona walked him to his door. She hesitated for a moment before saying, "If you need any help adjusting over the next couple of days, just let me know."
Stefan raised an eyebrow, a wicked glint in his eye. "Even with showering?"
Winona’s face flooded with color, instantly flustered. "I-I meant for normal things! For that, you obviously need to hire a male nurse. I can't help you there."
He chuckled, feigning a sigh of profound disappointment. "What a shame. Understood."
She realized he was actively testing her limits, constantly saying things that made her heart race and her face flush. Deciding not to indulge him, she turned away.
"I'm going home."
"Alright."
Back in her own apartment, Winona sat on the couch, cuddling Biscuit, staring blankly at the wall.
It had been a very, very long time since a man had made her heart pound like that. Even in the honeymoon phase with Yulen, she had never felt this kind of nervous, electric tension.
Biscuit nudged her hand for more pets.
Snapping out of her daze, she stroked his fur and sighed. "Your master is dangerously good at messing with people's heads."
Biscuit, oblivious, just stared up at her with big, soulful eyes.
At eight o'clock that evening, Stefan texted her, asking if she could come over and cook him some noodles.
Winona stared at her screen, torn. She was genuinely worried that if they kept spending so much time alone together, something would inevitably happen. Her body seemed far more eager to close the distance between them than her mind was.
