A man like Zack was exactly the kind of practical, stable partner she probably should be looking for in a marriage.
But feelings rarely cared about logic.
Even as she forced herself to be realistic and approach love and marriage with a strictly rational mindset, she just couldn't bring herself to do it.
She offered him a gentle smile, declining him softly. "I'm sorry, Zack. I don't want to string you along or treat you as a backup option."
Instead of looking defeated, Zack let out a bright, easy laugh. "I told you, I'm willing to wait. Besides, I haven't even properly started pursuing you yet! If you agreed right now, I'd have gotten off way too easy."
Winona didn't know how to respond to that, so she simply stayed quiet.
Meanwhile, Sylvan Scully had come to the hospital for some gastrointestinal tests.
Through the window of his car, he spotted Winona and Zack sitting together on a bench.
Zack's voice carried, and Sylvan managed to catch a sentence or two of the confession.
He shook his head disapprovingly.
This Winona Jowett really was a serial dater, stringing men along everywhere she went.
Zack had terrible taste in women. Out of everyone in the world, he had fallen for a player like Winona.
It seemed he would need to find time to have a chat with Zack's parents to ensure their son didn't get scammed.
He thought highly of Zack as a young professional; if he could recruit the kid to the Scully Group, it would be a major win.

When Camille returned home, Willow immediately rushed over. "What happened with the Sterling girl? It won't drag the Locke family into it, will it?"
Camille rolled her eyes in deep irritation. "It's because you insisted on plotting all that nonsense with Blythe! Luckily, I went over there to run damage control and cut all ties. Blythe and Zayden are definitely going down for this. From now on, we need to completely distance ourselves from the Shipleys' mess."
Willow was bewildered. "What happened? Blythe texted me earlier saying she had Mrs. Channing completely handled."
"Stefan Goddard showed up. He backed Winona."
