Even if the guy had broken her heart over and over again, would she still keep running back to him?
His friend sent back a voice note, his tone dripping with sympathy. *"Stefan, love is complicated. If Winona wants to go back to Yulen, there is literally nothing you can do about it."*
Stefan stared out at the sprawling, pitch-black city skyline, the emotions in his eyes completely unreadable.
The next morning, Samantha received a blunt message from her boss: get rid of the potted orchid. Though utterly confused, she obeyed and headed into Stefan's office.
Stefan stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, refusing to even look in her direction. Hesitant, Samantha cast a quick glance at him before quietly picking up the plant and carrying it out.
That evening, as Winona was leaving the office, she spotted the secretary carrying a very familiar-looking orchid.
"Samantha?" Winona asked, stopping in her tracks. "Did you buy that?"
Startled, Samantha looked incredibly awkward. "Oh... actually, this is the one you gave Mr. Goddard. He decided he didn't want to keep it anymore, so he told me to toss it."
A sharp, inexplicable ache pierced Winona's chest. Forcing down the sudden wave of bitterness, she managed a tight smile. "I see. Good to know."
She turned and walked away.
Samantha bit her lip, mentally taking a moment of silence for her boss's nonexistent love life. Throwing away a gift from the girl he liked, only for her to catch him doing it? If Stefan ever realized what a massive mistake he had made, he'd never be able to win her back.
She truly didn't understand it. How could a man so brilliant in the boardroom be this spectacularly awful at dating? If you like her, just tell her! It felt like everyone around them was losing their minds waiting for him to make a move.

On Saturday afternoon, Winona attended the coffee social organized by Violet. She had brought a batch of handmade cookies as a gift.
Violet was absolutely delighted as she opened the tin, immediately passing them around to her wealthy, elite friends. The older women adored the gesture, showering Winona with compliments on her baking.
