The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 310

The buzzcut thug frowned, thinking about the massive three-million-dollar payout their client had promised them. Hearing Frances say they were just going to let the girl walk, he couldn't help but speak up. "Boss, what about the three million?"

Frances shot him a withering glare. "Is my life not worth three million to you?"

The man and the rest of the crew instantly shut their mouths.

Winona looked at Frances. "I have to ask again. Who paid you to kidnap me?"

"I agreed to let you go and scrap the job," Frances replied firmly, "but that doesn't mean I'm going to sell out a client. Go get some rest, Ms. Jowett. The sun will be up in two hours, and I'll have my guys drive you home."

Realizing she wasn't going to get an answer, Winona relented and went back to the small room, closing her eyes to catch whatever sleep she could.

When dawn broke, Winona woke up.

Frances was true to her word and had ordered her men to prepare a car. But just as Winona was about to walk out the door, a furious figure stormed into the warehouse.

It was Maeve Mallory.

That was when it clicked. Maeve was the one who had put the hit out on her.

Maeve shrieked at Frances, "I paid you to break her legs and lock her in a cage! Why is she walking around without a scratch? You took my money and didn't do the job!"

"The deal's off, Ms. Mallory," Frances said coldly. "I'm refunding your deposit right now."

"You absolute low-class scum! You think you can just break a deal with me?" Maeve hissed. She turned to her own heavily armed bodyguards. "Grab that bitch and tie her up!"

If Winona got permanently crippled right here, she could just pin the entire crime on Frances and her crew. Stefan would never know she was involved.

The bodyguards surged forward, easily overpowering Winona and pinning her arms behind her back.

Frances reached for a weapon to intervene, but one of her scouts sprinted through the back door. "Boss! Cop cars! Coming up the main road!"

With no time to play the hero, Frances ordered her men to scatter, abandoning the warehouse.

Winona was tied up tightly, struggling against the heavy ropes.

Maeve got off the phone, her face pale with panic. Someone had tipped off Stefan, and he was arriving with the police.

A vicious, desperate idea sparked in her mind.

She looked at her bodyguards. "Set the clothes on fire. Then, tie me up right next to her."

The bodyguards looked confused but didn't dare disobey.

Within minutes, the warehouse was a raging inferno. The mountains of discarded clothing acted as perfect kindling. Thick, toxic black smoke rolled across the ceiling, and the sheer heat of the flames sucked the oxygen right out of the room.
