The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 311

Stefan wrapped his arms around Winona, using his back to shield her from the brunt of the falling, burning debris.

His suit jacket instantly caught fire, but instead of letting go, he pulled her even tighter against his chest.

Maeve stood frozen in place, staring blankly as he risked everything to carry Winona out of the blaze.

He had kept his promise to save her.

But she still lost to Winona.

Because she knew, in that split second, Stefan had been perfectly willing to die alongside the other woman.

At the hospital, Stefan had already lost consciousness.

Winona's throat burned from the thick smoke, and the back of her hand was scorched, but otherwise, she was unhurt.

She watched as he was wheeled into the emergency room, her eyes swimming with worry.

"Winona Jowett, this is all your fault!" Maeve shrieked, her face contorted with rage. "If it weren't for you, Stefan wouldn't be hurt this badly!"

Winona whipped around. Summoning every ounce of her remaining strength, she slapped Maeve hard across the face.

"Maeve, if you hadn't ordered someone to start that fire, would he be in there right now? You are the one who did this!"

Her throat flared with agony as she shouted.

Stunned by the blow, Maeve tried to lunge back, but Stefan's bodyguards instantly restrained her.

She glared at Winona, practically foaming at the mouth in a state of half-madness.

"You're the curse! Why didn't you just die in there?!"

The nurses quickly ushered Winona away to treat her burns, while Maeve was shoved to the floor, completely unable to get near her.

Half an hour later, Mrs. Mallory and Violet rushed into the waiting area.
