At 10:00 PM, Winona received a text from Rhea.
"I spoke to a contact who knows the lawyer defending the supplier's son. The Locke Group definitely pulled strings to get his sentence reduced. Yulen is 100% behind the food poisoning. The supplier is taking the fall entirely and claiming negligence. He hasn't breathed a word about Yulen, so legally, Yulen is untouchable.
Also, I checked on that delivery guy who almost hit Greta. He's a fake. Never been registered on any delivery app.
Winona, he is a sociopath. I am terrified for you being in that house with him."
Winona’s nails dug into her palms, her eyes burning with pure, unadulterated hatred.
After finishing his work in the study, Yulen headed toward the bedroom, only to spot Winona bustling about in the kitchen.
He walked over, noticing her watching the oven, and smiled softly. "Why are you still up? If you were hungry, you could have just asked the nanny to make something."
Winona offered a small smile and pointed at the oven. "I figured you'd be starving after working so late. I baked some mashed potatoes for you. You can take it out when it's done."
A wave of intoxicating joy washed over Yulen.
This was the first time she had initiated a truce and cooked for him since their fallout.
"Thank you," he beamed.
Winona pressed the joystick on her wheelchair and rolled back to her room.
When the oven timer chimed, Yulen pulled out the dish.
He ate every last bite, savoring the moment. He was just about to head to the bedroom to enjoy their long-awaited reconciliation when his throat suddenly started burning. A sharp, violent cramp seized his stomach.
He barely made it to the bathroom before he was violently vomiting into the toilet.
An hour later, having had his stomach pumped, a weak and pale Yulen lay in a hospital bed.
Winona sat quietly in her wheelchair beside him, her expression unreadable.
"I'm fine, Winona," he rasped, trying to comfort her. "Don't worry."
A cold, delicate smile curved Winona’s lips. "How were the sprouted potatoes?"
Yulen’s pupils dilated in shock. He stared at her, horrified.
Winona wheeled herself closer. Her beautiful face looked serene, but her words sliced into him like a scalpel.
