The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 339

Winona just offered a noncommittal "Mhm," completely unwilling to explain reality to her grandmother.

After resting for another week, Winona finally got her cast removed and was cleared to return to work.

Though she still walked with a slight limp, she could easily take a cab to the office.

Being cooped up with Nikita and constantly bombarded with her suffocatingly old-fashioned views had nearly driven Winona insane.

She understood that her grandmother was a product of a different era, but she absolutely refused to accept those beliefs.

Hoping for an escape, Winona texted Rhea to see if they could grab dinner after work, only to find out Rhea was out of town.

"Didn't you say your cases for the next six months were all based in Riverton?" Winona texted back. "Why the sudden business trip?"

Rhea replied quickly: "Who knows? My boss completely lost his mind and reassigned me to a bunch of out-of-state grunt work. I gotta run, about to meet a client."

When Winona got home that evening, Nikita immediately started fussing. "Yulen has been coming home so late recently. Shouldn't you text him to check in? I leave a bowl of ginseng broth out for him every night, but I don't think he ever touches it."

"Grandma, stop making it," Winona said coldly. "He obviously doesn't have time for it."

If Yulen was coming home late, he was either at the office or with Tallulah.

Either way, Winona couldn't care less.

Nikita frowned in disapproval. "Winona, you see how well he treats you. Giving him the cold shoulder like this is just cruel."

Winona rubbed her temples. "Grandma, I'm going to bed. It was my first day back at work, and I'm exhausted."

Though she loved to nag, Nikita did care about Winona's health. "Fine, fine. Go rest. I still don't understand why you and Helena insist on running yourselves into the ground. What is the point of women working themselves to death?"

Winona closed her bedroom door, letting out a heavy breath.

She needed to focus on her career.

Being on medical leave had put her severely behind on her projects.

She would have to put in serious overtime to catch up.

Plus, working late had a double benefit: she could avoid Nikita's lectures and severely limit her interactions with Yulen.
