The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 56

Stefan saw her home before driving off. Winona didn’t give the minor interruption a second thought. Later, Rhea texted, inviting her shopping on Saturday, and Winona agreed. Saturday morning, after a lap around the mall, Rhea had bags of new clothes while Winona had only purchased a single pair of leather shoes. Rhea teased her, “Why no new clothes? And aren't those shoes a bit too… academic?”

“I don’t need fancy clothes in the lab,” Winona replied. “What I do need is a comfortable pair of shoes. Standing all day can be exhausting.”

“Are there any decent guys in your lab?” Rhea pressed. “If there’s potential, you should give it a shot!”

Winona sighed helplessly. “I’m pregnant, Rhea. Who’s going to want to start something with me now?”

Rhea pinched her cheek. “It might be hard for anyone else, but you’re different. With a face like yours, men would line up for the chance to step into that role.”

Winona just managed a weary smile.

They went to a coffee shop for lattes and suddenly spotted Tallulah and Zayden.

Zayden, who had spent over a month in the hospital recovering, felt a surge of anger the moment he saw Rhea. He suspected she was somehow connected to his broken legs, but with no proof, he’d had to swallow the bitter pill.

Now that he had run into her, he wasn't about to let it go. He marched over, snarling, “You bitch. I finally caught you. Guess it’s just your unlucky day!”

With that, he swung his hand to slap her.

Rhea dodged, but Zayden lunged again. Seeing this, Winona slipped off her heel and hurled it at him. Zayden yelped in pain and turned to go after Winona, only to get hit from behind by Rhea.

Zayden was a man weakened by his debauched lifestyle, and his legs were only recently healed. He was no match for them and was soon black and blue.

Tallulah had stayed quiet while Zayden went after them, but the second he started losing, she shrieked, “Help! Someone’s attacking my brother!”

“But you can’t just beat him half to death!” Tallulah retorted angrily. “You’ve practically ruined his face!”

“He’s still breathing, isn’t he?” Winona said sarcastically.

Yulen felt that Winona was becoming more and more unreasonable, but getting Zayden to a hospital was the priority. He and Tallulah helped Zayden out of the shop.

“Yulen,” Tallulah said, aggrieved, “are we just going to let this go?”

Yulen’s voice was flat. “The employee said Zayden started it. It’s wrong to hit a woman. When you get home, you should have your parents teach him a lesson.”

Seeing that he wasn’t on her side, Tallulah felt a pang of frustration. “Yulen, you’re so biased. Are you ignoring this because of Winona?”
