The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 596

She would shower, pass out the second her head hit the pillow, and then rush out the door again the next morning.

Knowing how intense her schedule was, Stefan had Ezra Vane deliver her lunches and dinners, constantly reminding her to eat.

Once the final experimental data came in, Winona finally let out a breath she felt she’d been holding for days.

Tonight, there was no overtime. Winona wrapped up her final tasks, packed her bag, and prepared to leave the office.

She desperately needed a long soak in a hot bath.

Giselle happened to be driving past the lab and spotted Winona walking out. She pulled over to say hi.

Winona’s eyes were heavy with exhaustion, her hair was thrown into a messy bun, and she wore absolutely zero makeup. Three days of non-stop work had left her looking utterly drained.

Seeing Winona in such a state, a flicker of sheer disdain crossed Giselle’s eyes.

There were a few female researchers in her own department who worked like Winona—never wearing makeup, pulling all-nighters until their hair was greasy and their skin broke out, radiating the miserable, desperate aura of corporate slaves.

Wasn't Winona dating Stefan Goddard?

Why hadn't Stefan given her the resources to make her life easier?

A woman who didn't know how to milk a man for all he was worth was just pathetic.

Besides, going home looking like a wreck would only disgust a man.

Men were visual creatures. They liked beautiful, fit women. A woman who stopped putting effort into her appearance would be discarded in a heartbeat.

Being Sylvan Scully’s daughter was vastly superior.

Her job was a breeze, everyone around her bent over backward to please her, and her hands were full of luxury gifts.

A wave of immense superiority washed over her as she offered Winona a saccharine smile. "Work’s been busy, huh? You look exhausted. Do you want a ride home?"

Winona was far too tired to care about whatever game Giselle was playing. She pointed to a car parked nearby. "Thanks, but I drove. Have a good night."

With that, she walked toward her car.

Noticing that Winona drove a completely standard, mid-range domestic car, Giselle let out a mocking laugh. She slammed her foot on the gas and sped off in her brand-new sports car.

Once home, Winona started running the bath.

She absolutely adored the massive soaking tub in Stefan's bathroom. Whenever she had the time, she made a point to soak for at least half an hour.

When the tub was full, she slipped into the warm water, feeling every exhausted cell in her body sigh in relief.

Without realizing it, she drifted off to sleep.

About ten minutes later, the buzzing of her phone woke her.

Glancing at the mirror, she saw Stefan standing behind her, his sleeves rolled up, gently washing her hair.

"Just get back?" she asked softly.

The doorbell rang. Stefan went to answer it and took a small box of ointment from Ezra.

He opened the box, walked over to the sofa, and sat beside her. Gently lifting her head onto his lap, he carefully applied the cream to her jaw.

When he finished, Winona extended her left arm. "I noticed two little red bumps here, too. I think this cream works for them?"

Stefan meticulously checked the instruction leaflet, confirmed it was safe, and dabbed the medicine onto her arm.

Lowering her arm, Winona looked up at him, her tone dripping with the playful arrogance of a deeply spoiled woman. "Mr. Goddard, be a darling and fetch me a glass of water."

Stefan chuckled, pressed a kiss to her cheek, and got up to get her water.

That night, they shared a long-overdue moment of deep intimacy.

Pressing kisses along his jaw, Winona murmured, "Stefan, how is it that you pull all-nighters all the time but never break out? Your genetics are insane."

Stefan just smiled, letting her hands wander.

"Your skin is flawless, too," she whispered, tracing his collarbone.

Stefan’s breathing, which had just begun to settle, hitched violently.

Winona continued to tease him. "If we have a baby... do you think they'll inherit your perfect genes?"

Dark desire flared in his eyes. Without a word, he rolled over, pinning her beneath him and capturing her lips in a bruising kiss.
