When Winona left for work the next morning, she ran into Yulen at the elevator.
She didn't so much as glance at him as she stepped inside.
Yulen’s eyes instantly locked onto a faint, reddish bruise tucked just behind her ear. It was as if a bolt of lightning had struck him. His entire body went rigid.
He had somehow convinced himself that even though Winona was dating Stefan, she would never sleep with him unless they were engaged.
But they had already crossed that line.
The realization hit him like a physical blow, as if someone had violently ripped away his most prized possession. A dark, suffocating aura settled over him.
Outside, a torrential downpour raged.
Sitting in her car, Winona texted Stefan: *If the winds get too strong later, don't drive back to the Capital.*
Stefan replied: *I won't.*
Yulen walked straight into the freezing rain, his mind a chaotic blur.
His bodyguard hurried over with an umbrella. "Mr. Locke, you're getting soaked. Let's head inside."
Yulen shot him a look of pure, unadulterated venom. "Get lost."
The bodyguard flinched and backed away, umbrella in hand.
The icy rain soaked through his hair and clothes, but Yulen felt entirely numb to it.
An hour later, he mechanically got into the car waiting by the curb.
His driver nervously offered him a towel.
As Yulen dragged the towel over his wet hair, his eyes were bloodshot and manic.
At ten-thirty, Giselle had just woken up and was getting ready for work when Yulen called her.
"Giselle. Can you come have a drink with me?"
Giselle frowned. It was the middle of the workday. What was his problem now?
Still, considering him a valuable friend, she decided to ditch work and meet him.
When she arrived at the Lounge Bar, Yulen was already a few drinks deep, looking thoroughly devastated.
"What happened to you?" she asked, genuinely curious.
Yulen gripped his glass, his knuckles turning white. Looking as though he had suffered the ultimate betrayal, he gritted out, "She and Stefan Goddard... they've been sleeping together."
Giselle blinked. "...And?"
Yulen’s red eyes snapped to hers. "How could she be so easy? Sleeping with a man before they're even married?"
Giselle’s jaw dropped. For a second, she literally forgot to close her mouth.
Was Yulen seriously this archaic about the woman he supposedly loved?
They were consenting adults in a relationship. How could they not be sleeping together?
Not to mention, Stefan Goddard was practically a god among men. What woman in her right mind could resist him?
Yulen kept throwing back shots.
Giselle matched him drink for drink.
Assuming they were a couple, the driver took the half-drunk pair to a hotel.
The moment they stumbled into the room, Yulen dragged Giselle into a frantic kiss.
Giselle didn't push him away.
She wasn't in love with him, but she certainly appreciated his body.
And Yulen felt the same.
Once a man shattered his psychological barriers and cheated the first time, the guilt and moral conflict slowly eroded away.
Yulen convinced himself that this was simply male nature. He was just satisfying a primal urge. It wasn't really a betrayal.
Besides, Tallulah had cheated first. She of all people should understand.
After they finished, they both fell into a deep sleep, only waking up around four in the afternoon.
Leaning against the headboard, Yulen watched Giselle emerge from the bathroom and casually hook her bra in front of him.
Suddenly, an invasive thought hit him: Did Winona do this in front of Stefan, too?
A sharp, agonizing pain seized his chest.
