The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 619

Winona wrapped up her work and headed home. Stefan had spent the last two days handling business in Riverton, and he returned early that evening as well.

Lexie had prepared dinner, featuring a beautiful steamed grouper. Winona took one bite, but the fishy taste hit the back of her throat. She clamped a hand over her mouth and gagged.

Stefan's brow furrowed in immediate concern. "Are you feeling sick?"

Winona shook her head, taking a sip of water. "It's probably just a stomach bug."

Stefan set his silverware down. "We're going to the hospital."

Winona tried to brush it off, insisting some over-the-counter stomach medicine would do the trick, but Stefan wasn't taking no for an answer.

At the hospital, they rushed through the blood tests. The doctor reviewed the results with a warm smile. "Your hCG levels are well over 120. Based on the date of your last cycle, you're about three weeks pregnant."

Silence hung in the room as the couple absorbed the news. The doctor continued, "It's very early, so we won't see the gestational sac on an ultrasound yet. As long as there's no cramping or bleeding, just go home and rest. Come back in ten days for a follow-up to check if your hormone levels are doubling properly and to confirm implantation."

Walking out of the clinic, Winona felt like she was floating. Maxine Zeller had promised her holistic treatments would help her body heal, but she hadn't dared to hope it would happen so fast. She gently rested a hand on her flat stomach, her eyes tearing up.

Stefan's mind had blanked for a solid minute, but his razor-sharp instincts quickly took over. He immediately began calculating the logistics. "Let's get you home," he said smoothly.

Winona looked at his composed, serious expression. She had expected joy, maybe even tears. Was he not excited about the baby?

The moment they got home, Stefan picked up his phone and immediately summoned a top-tier private obstetrician to come to Riverton. Winona listened to the rapid-fire demands, a mix of amusement and exasperation washing over her.

When he finally hung up, she sighed. "You really don't need to make such a big deal out of this. Going to a regular hospital for my prenatal checkups is perfectly fine."

Stefan walked over, his eyes dead serious. "Your pregnancy is strictly confidential for now. I need an absolute guarantee that the doctor handling your care is someone I implicitly trust."

"Not right now," Stefan said gently but firmly. "I've got her. I'll take care of her."

"You better promise me," Wynne demanded, her voice shaking. "Don't let a single hair on her head get hurt."

"I swear on my life, I will protect her."

Hanging up, Wynne immediately started researching prenatal nutrition. With Giselle stuck at the hospital looking after Sylvan, the house was blessedly quiet. It was the perfect time to focus on what mattered.

That evening, Winona arrived home from work. Lexie had prepared a spread of light, healthy dishes, balancing the nutrients perfectly without triggering Winona's nausea.
