The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 620

Stefan walked through the door right on time. After finishing up in the kitchen, Lexie headed home for the night.

Noticing Winona had a good appetite for the summer squash and pork broth, Stefan smiled. "I'll have Lexie make this for you more often."

Winona laughed. "Please don't. If she makes it every day, I'll end up hating it. Remember the steamed egg incident?"

Conceding her point, Stefan chuckled and started clearing the table, loading the dishes into the dishwasher.

When he returned to the living room, he handed her two small glass jars. "Sour plums and candied citrus peel. If you start feeling nauseous, these will help."

"You're a lifesaver," Winona beamed, taking the jars. "I was actually planning to run to the store to look for something exactly like this."

She popped a piece of the candied peel into her mouth. The bright, tangy zest and subtle sweetness immediately settled her stomach. She looked at the elegant label. "I've never seen this brand in stores before."

"It's a niche brand that Mr. Powell invested in. Very small production batches," Stefan explained.

Winona was surprised. "Mr. Powell invests in boutique snacks?"

"When Wynne was pregnant," Stefan said softly, "she couldn't stand the taste of anything on the market. So, Mr. Powell personally funded a startup to manufacture snacks tailored exactly to her cravings. They ended up being quite popular in the high-end grocery stores in the Capital."

As she walked through the door, Willow was sitting in the parlor, holding her grandson. She eyed Tallulah up and down. "Another doctor's appointment? You brought this on yourself, losing my second grandson with your own stupidity. Now you can't even get pregnant. Let me make one thing clear: if you don't give my son another heir within five years, don't you dare cry when he finds another woman who can."

Tallulah trembled with suppressed rage. "I already gave you a grandson! Doesn't that count for anything? I'm not a breeding machine! Why is my only purpose to carry on the family name?"

Willow dropped all pretense of civility. "We believe in a large, prosperous family. I gave my husband four children. If you can't match that, you're failing Yulen. He didn't marry you so you could sit around playing lady of the manor. If you can't provide heirs, you're completely useless!"

Tears of pure humiliation spilled down Tallulah's cheeks. She wanted to scream back, but the memory of her allowance being slashed forced the words down her throat. She was so sick of begging for scraps, but she had nowhere else to go.

She told herself to hold on. She just needed to rest, focus on healing her body, and somehow get pregnant again. If she could win Yulen back and start working again, things would change. She just had to endure this a little longer...
