The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 629

"It’s a boutique brand out of the Capital," Winona explained. "They produce in incredibly small batches, so you won’t find it in any stores here in Riverton."

Killian pulled out his phone. "Shame. I actually have an old frat brother working in the Capital right now. I’ll just have him grab me a few boxes."

He snapped a quick photo of the wrapper and sent it off.

Ten minutes later, his friend texted back a photo from an ultra-high-end grocery boutique.

*Dude. This brand is insane. It's over a hundred dollars for a tiny bag of ten pieces. It’s more expensive than imported caviar. You sure you want this?*

Killian stared at the price tag, his jaw practically hitting the floor.

One piece of candy cost more than his entire lunch.

Suddenly, his sweet tooth vanished. *Never mind, man. Thanks anyway.*

Winona hadn't realized the Powell family's brand commanded such an astronomical price tag. No wonder they didn't bother expanding into mass retail markets.

Curious, she texted Stefan about it.

A few moments later, his reply came through: *Mr. Powell mentioned it once. The pricing is purely dictated by the production cost. They source historically authentic, aged citrus peels, use zero artificial flavoring or preservatives, and manufacture everything in a pharmaceutical-grade clean room. The profit margin is actually practically nonexistent.*

Winona shook her head in awe. *Has Mr. Powell really kept this entire production line running for decades just because Wynne liked them when she was pregnant?*

*Yep,* Stefan replied. *As long as Wynne enjoys them, he’ll never shut it down.*

Winona smiled at her screen. *Don't tell me he created other companies for her when she was expecting?*

*Obviously,* Stefan joked. *There’s an entire line of premium maternal and infant care products. We’re definitely going to benefit from that soon.*

She was an assistant. She used to be a high-powered director at the Locke Group, barking orders and managing millions in budgets. Now, she was fetching files and prepping petri dishes.

She complained bitterly to Quentin over the phone, whining about the indignity of the demotion.

At first, Quentin tried to soothe her, gently encouraging her to stick with it.

But as the days went by, and her relentless negativity yielded zero gratitude for the massive favor he had pulled, his patience snapped.

"Tallulah, stop," Quentin said, his voice flat and exhausted. "Everyone in this industry knows about your scandals. You are practically radioactive. Bryce didn't want you. He only took you in because I practically begged him to give you a chance. So put your head down, do the work, and be grateful you have an opportunity to rebuild your life. Stop letting that toxic marriage drag you into the gutter."

Quentin loved her, which was why he was being so brutally honest. He was desperate to save her. He still believed that the cruel, selfish woman she had become was entirely Yulen Locke's fault, and that the kind, radiant girl he fell in love with was still trapped inside.

Hearing the cold edge in his voice, Tallulah realized with a jolt of panic that she had pushed him too far.
