The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 635

Winona opened her laptop, pulling up the tracking software. She looked up, her tone deadpan. "Of course it's not about something so petty. I called the police because you stole confidential data from my computer."

As a researcher himself, Forrest absolutely despised intellectual property theft. He looked at Karina with open disgust.

Karina couldn't care less about Winona's accusations, but Forrest's contemptuous glare cracked her armor. Being called a thief in front of the man she liked was humiliating.

She glared at Winona. "Don't try to frame me. I never touched your computer."

"I sent that monitoring software to Winona myself," Forrest stated, his voice like ice. "The IP address doesn't lie."

Karina bit her lip. If it were just Winona, she would have screamed her down. But with Forrest standing there, she desperately wanted to salvage whatever was left of her image.

She gritted her teeth. "An IP address doesn't prove anything. I might have a bad temper, but I don't break the law. Besides, what would I even do with your files? I don't even have a job in the industry."

Winona remained unmoved by her denial. "I don't care about your motives, and I don't want to know them. The evidence shows you stole my files, and you're going to face the legal consequences."

Karina puffed up her chest. "I am Stefan's cousin. If you sue me, aren't you afraid he'll be furious with you?"

"Stefan supports me completely," Winona replied smoothly.

Karina flushed with anger, mostly because she knew it was true. Stefan was ruthlessly objective; he would never protect her over something like this.

She looked back at Forrest, trying one last, desperate spin to save face. "Even if I did do it, I'm not a bad person! I was just trying to play a joke on Winona!"

"Aunt Margaret, Winona framed me!" Karina wailed. "She threw me in jail and now I can't leave! You have to help me!"

Despite her scolding, Margaret immediately dispatched a high-powered lawyer to arrange bail.

After languishing in holding for over three hours, Karina was finally released and returned to her apartment. Shortly after, her phone rang. It was Stefan.

"You hacked into Winona's computer and stole her research?" he demanded. "Are you completely brainless?"

Karina was already miserable, and being chewed out by her cousin pushed her over the edge. "Why do you only ever take her side?! So what if I hacked her? It's not like she lost any money! She called the cops and threatened to sue me! I'm your family, and she doesn't give a damn about your reputation. Do you honestly think she loves you? She's so fake!"

Recognizing she was completely unhinged, Stefan's voice dropped to a lethal register. "Let me make this perfectly clear, Karina. I stand with Winona. If you don't apologize and compensate her immediately, I will personally fund her lawsuit to ensure you are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
