The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 640

Margaret was now more convinced than ever that Winona was entirely wrong for Stefan.

"Winona, Karina is Stefan's cousin. No matter what she did, you have to be the bigger person and forgive her. If you lack even that basic level of tolerance, you are completely unfit for Stefan."

Winona stared at her, marveling at the sheer hypocrisy.

Karina was allowed to commit corporate espionage against her, but Winona was expected to swallow it with a smile. Did Margaret honestly believe the entire universe revolved around the Shepherd family's bruised egos?

It was breathtakingly arrogant.

Before Winona could verbally dismantle her, a figure hurried into the café.

It was Jasper.

He looked exasperated as he approached the table. "Margaret, I told you I already had the situation under control. Why are you here stirring the pot? Back off. If Winona hadn't been gracious enough to drop the charges, Karina would be looking at jail time right now."

Margaret stared at her brother in absolute disbelief. She had flown all the way from the capital specifically to put Winona in her place, and now her own brother was standing up for the girl? What kind of twisted joke was this?

"Are you telling me to mind my own business?" she snapped.

Jasper shot Winona an apologetic look, grabbed his sister's arm, and dragged her out of the café.

Once they were in the car, Jasper turned to her. "I think Winona is perfect for Stefan. She's brilliant, highly capable, and she has exactly what it takes to be his wife. Margaret, your paranoia is completely unfounded."

Margaret looked at him like he had lost his mind.

"Did she brainwash you too? With her background, how could she ever be worthy of Stefan?"

Jasper sighed, trying to make her see reason. "Look at Stefan's track record. You know he's never going to let you dictate his life. If you keep treating him like an enemy, you're only going to alienate him forever. Since you can't control him anyway, why not just accept it and build a bridge with Winona? If we support her now, she'll support the Shepherds down the line. It's a win-win."

Margaret sneered. "Her? She's nothing but a social climber. The idea that she could ever be in a position to help our family is hilarious."

Jasper shook his head. "Margaret, you're blinded by this toxic mother-in-law complex, so all you do is pick her apart. But looking at her objectively, as an outsider? She is exceptional. She is a better match for Stefan than anyone else. Just... think about it."

Shortly after landing, Stefan's phone buzzed. It was his mother.

Margaret launched into her standard tirade of complaints before aggressively demanding he return to the capital to attend several curated blind dates.

"I'm busy," Stefan replied flatly, and hung up.

Staring at her disconnected phone, Margaret felt a sharp pain in her chest from sheer fury.

But she was utterly powerless against him.

Desperate for an ally, she tried to call Roxana to vent her frustrations. Roxana wasn't home.

She asked the household staff and was informed that Roxana had flown out of the country for a vacation with Violet.

Margaret nearly threw her phone. "Unbelievable! Not a single one of them respects me. I give them everything, and they treat me like absolute garbage!"
