The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 65

He felt he had been more than good to Winona; she, on the other hand, was giving him nothing but the cold shoulder.

That woman had approached him at the table, and when he told her he was married, she'd looked confused. "You mean that beautiful woman you were with? But she said you were just friends."

At the memory, Yulen let out a bitter laugh.

Winona saw no point in talking. As far as she was concerned, they were already over. Yulen's thoughts and feelings were his own problem, and she had no obligation to give him any answers.

When she stood up to leave, Yulen suddenly grabbed her wrist, pressing her into a corner against the wall. His large frame cast a shadow over her.

He watched her long eyelashes flutter. Her eyes were filled only with indifference, completely devoid of their past tenderness. Yulen frowned. "Explain yourself."

His breath was warm against her face. In the past, Winona would have loved his closeness. Now, she only felt annoyed.

Yulen caught the flicker of disgust in her eyes, and for a moment, he was so taken aback that his grip loosened.

Winona seized the opportunity to break free, scrambling a few steps away.

Her avoidance irked him. He yanked at the collar of his shirt, about to close the distance between them again.

Winona watched him warily, continuing to back away.

Her expression was almost amusing to him. Did she really think he would hurt her?

"Winona, is there some kind of misunderstanding between us?"

Winona truly had nothing left to say to him. People like him never thought they were in the wrong. Arguing would be a waste of time.

As he reached for her hand again, she suddenly lashed out, stomping hard on his foot. While he froze in pain, she quickly pushed the door open and left without a backward glance.

When she came to, she was in a car. She tried to sit up, but the man immediately pressed a pair of scissors against her throat. "Don't move," he hissed. "Just lie there quietly."

A shadow of fear fell over her. She lay still, focusing on conserving her energy.

An hour later, the man dragged her out of the car. Three thugs with dyed blond hair were waiting for them.

"You sure there won't be any trouble with this one?" one of the thugs asked.

The man hurriedly explained, bowing slightly, "Her only family is a really old grandmother. Even if she goes missing, no one will come looking for her."

He had been hesitant to go after this woman again. But then Tallulah had called him, providing details about her family background and offering him a sum of money. The temptation was too great.

He had been worried about loan sharks cutting off his hands and feet. Now, all he had to do was sell this woman, and he could finally pay off his gambling debts and live a life of freedom.
