The blond guy nodded, tore the tape from Winona's mouth, and let out an appreciative whistle.
"Gorgeous! Alright, we'll call it even on your gambling debts."
Just as he was about to drag Winona into a van, she spoke, her voice surprisingly calm.
"How much does he owe you? I can give you more."
She had already pieced together why they had taken her. If it was just about money, she still had a chance to save herself.
The man who had originally kidnapped her grew nervous. "Don't let her fool you," he said to the blond guy. "She doesn't have any money."
The blond guy looked at Winona skeptically.
Winona knew that in a moment like this, she couldn't show any fear. She forced herself to look calm and unimpressed. "I don't, but my husband does. Just let me make one phone call, and he'll wire the money immediately."
The thugs exchanged glances. One of them pulled out a phone. "Fine, make the call. If your husband can come up with five hundred thousand, we'll let you go."
Winona's palms were sweating, but she maintained her calm, proud facade as she took the phone.
She dialed Yulen's number.
He didn't answer the first time.
Clenching the phone, Winona tried again.
Finally, the call connected.
Tallulah's lazy voice came through the line. "Who is this?"
Winona swallowed hard and said with clear articulation, "Let me speak to Yulen."
Tallulah chuckled, clearly toying with her. "Yulen's in the shower. Why don't you try calling back later?"
"Five hundred thousand."
She expected him to hesitate.
Instead, the man agreed without a second thought. "Give me the account number."
Winona looked at the blond thug. "The account number."
The man was stunned that someone was actually willing to pay the ransom. He rattled off the account details.
After listening, Stefan said, "I'll have the bank expedite the transfer."
Less than ten minutes later, the money arrived. The blond guy looked at Winona with obvious regret and reached for her cheek anyway, tempted to take one last liberty.
Winona flinched away, saying coolly, "Do you really think someone who can get a bank to wire that much money in minutes is an ordinary person?"
