The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 653

After work that evening, Winona received a message from Stefan saying he'd be home late. She replied to let him know she understood.

Once home, she ate dinner by herself, then pulled out her laptop to log some overtime.

The doorbell rang. She went to answer it and was surprised to see Karina Shepherd standing there.

When Karina had previously claimed she wanted to volunteer at the orphanage, Winona figured she wouldn't last long.

Yet, to her surprise, Karina was present in every single group photo the volunteer chat posted.

Winona's opinion of her had shifted slightly.

"Do you need something?"

Karina shifted awkwardly. "I wanted to come over and... ask you for a favor."

Winona stepped aside to let her in.

Looking around at the warm, cozy decor, Karina was taken aback.

When Stefan used to live alone, his place had always felt cold and sterile, devoid of any extra decorations. Now, it was completely different.

She remembered reading somewhere that if a single man allowed a woman to completely invade his personal space and accepted her changing his ingrained habits, it meant he had fallen hopelessly in love.

Without realizing it, the way she looked at Winona began to change.

Her dad had been right. Stefan really did love Winona.

If they could get on Winona's good side, it would genuinely be a foolproof investment.

Winona didn't offer to get her a drink. She simply sat on the couch, waiting for Karina to state her business.

She reserved her hospitality for those who deserved it.

Seeing how ruthlessly unyielding Winona was, Karina felt a wave of frustration.

She planted herself on the couch, making it clear she wasn't leaving. "If you don't say yes, I'm going to come here every single day."

Winona ignored her entirely and went into her study to work.

Seeing that Winona genuinely didn't care, Karina was heavily dissatisfied.

But since she now understood that Winona was the woman Stefan loved—meaning she absolutely couldn't afford to cross her—she swallowed her pride.

Glancing around the living room, she noticed a little mutt and a tabby cat.

Her expression twisted with immediate disdain.

She couldn't believe Winona kept such classless pets.
