The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 655

The next evening, Karina rang the doorbell right on time.

Winona looked through the peephole. Seeing who it was, she didn't open the door; instead, she called Ezra Vane to send her away.

Considering everything Karina had done, Winona had absolutely zero obligation to entertain her or give her the time of day.

Even after being shooed away, Karina didn't get mad. She showed up the next day, and the day after that.

For a solid week, she basically clocked in at Winona's front door.

Winona continued to ignore her completely.

One evening, Winona took Biscuit out for a walk.

Suddenly, a massive dog lunged out from the bushes, barking ferociously at Biscuit before snapping its jaws at him.

Biscuit was entirely paralyzed by fear.

The large dog seized the opportunity and clamped its teeth onto Biscuit's leg.

Seeing Biscuit get attacked, Winona's mind went blank for a split second before her reflexes kicked in. She hurled her umbrella directly at the aggressive dog.

The beast didn't back down; it just kept its vicious grip on Biscuit's leg.

Biscuit let out a heartbreaking, agonized whimper.

Winona immediately screamed for help.

Ezra and Waldo Vane sprinted over. Ezra grabbed the dog's hind legs while Waldo used a thick tree branch to beat it back.

Once the dog finally released its grip, Ezra forcefully hurled it away.

Seeing the dog attempt to lunge again, Waldo raised the branch and cracked it hard.

Winona scooped up Biscuit. His small leg was a mangled mess of blood and torn flesh. Her eyes instantly welled up with tears.

"Get the car, hurry!"

Ezra quickly drove Winona and Biscuit to the animal hospital.

Once they arrived, the vet attempted to examine Biscuit, but the little dog thrashed and shrieked in sheer terror.

"He's in severe shock," the vet told Winona. "Wrap him tightly in this thick towel. I need to administer a sedative."

With that, he lunged forward, attempting to shove Winona to teach her a lesson.

Ezra was faster. He stepped squarely in front of the man, his expression lethal. "Get the hell away from her!"

The man jumped back in shock but quickly recovered his bravado, screaming, "You think you're tough? You want to hit me? Let me tell you, I'm Lance Winslow, and I don't back down from anyone!"

His wife immediately jumped in to back him up, and the couple stood right outside Winona's door, hurling a stream of profanities.

That was when Karina showed up.

She had been standing off to the side listening, piecing together what had happened.

Hearing the vile garbage spewing from the couple's mouths, she couldn't hold back and inserted herself directly into the screaming match.

"You two have skin thicker than bulletproof vests! Your beast mauls someone else's pet, and you have the nerve to play the victim?"

She traded furious insults with them at the top of her lungs for ten solid minutes.

Winona entirely ignored the chaos. She carried Biscuit inside to rest, waiting until the shouting match naturally died down before stepping back out.

She looked dead at the couple. "I just looked up the breed of your dog. It's a pitbull, isn't it? As I recall, aggressive breeds like that are strictly banned in Riverton. If you refuse to apologize and take full responsibility for this incident, I will report you to the city."
