The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 67

The blond guy pulled his hand back, unexpectedly impressed by how calm she was. With a wave of his hand, he ordered his men to drive her back to the city.

The man who had originally kidnapped her grew tense, afraid of retaliation. He started to follow, intending to threaten Winona into silence, but the blond guy grabbed him.

"That lady had the means to buy her freedom, but you still haven't paid off your gambling debts. You're not going anywhere."

"I—I can find another way to get the money," the man stammered in terror.

The blond guy looked at his pathetic state and patted his cheek. "I'm giving you twenty-four hours. After that, I'm cutting off your hands and feet."

The man collapsed to the ground.

Winona got into the van, her heart still pounding with fear. She only began to calm down when she saw the vehicle heading toward the city.

When they reached a shopping mall near her neighborhood, Winona asked to be let out. She didn't want the thug to know where she lived.

The blond guy smiled and opened the door. "I assume you don't want to see me again. Don't worry, we play by the rules. You paid, so we won't bother you again."

Winona scrambled out of the van. Seeing the familiar surroundings, she finally felt a sense of relief.

Suddenly, a pair of headlights swept across her face.

Winona instinctively shut her eyes.

When she opened them again, she saw a figure walking toward her, silhouetted against the light.

It was Yulen. His face was etched with anxiety.

Winona was surprised. She hadn't expected him to come.

Yulen looked her up and down, breathing a sigh of relief when he saw she was unharmed. "Thank God you're okay."

He had received a sudden call from Nikita earlier that evening, saying Winona was missing. In a panic, he had sent all the family bodyguards out to search while he dropped everything at work and drove back to Springs Haven. One of the guards reported seeing her nearby, so he had driven over immediately.

"You should stay at the family house tonight," Yulen told Winona.

"I have to go back to Springs Haven tomorrow," Winona said, not wanting to go with him. "Just take me to the nearest hotel."

She didn't dare go back to her own apartment alone. The night's events had left her deeply shaken, and she was afraid of having nightmares if she was by herself.

Seeing how late it was, Yulen agreed and drove to the nearest hotel. At the front desk, he booked a room for her and had his assistant bring over a spare phone.

"I need to investigate who was behind your kidnapping," he said to her. "Will you be alright here alone tonight?"

Winona nodded. She didn't believe for a second that he would actually deal with the man who had abducted her. He was probably just going to clean up Tallulah's mess. After all, if the truth came out, it would be a huge scandal for Tallulah.

She was too exhausted to care about any of it right now. All she wanted was to rest.

After Yulen left, she went into her room, locked the door, and fell asleep the moment her head hit the pillow.
