"I will."

Stefan handed her a soft throw blanket. "The new AC is going to be cold. Keep this in the office."

"Got it."

Before heading out, Winona couldn't resist pressing a kiss to his cheek. "I'm off. See you tonight."

When she arrived at work, Killian was already there, beaming. "Usually, when the AC breaks this time of year, we have to endure four or five repair attempts before it works. I can't believe they actually shelled out for a brand-new unit overnight."

Winona smiled, keeping it to herself that Stefan was the one footing the bill.

Karina walked in holding two iced coffees. She had suffered through the stifling heat yesterday and had been tempted to ditch work just to sit in front of a fan at home.

But she had forced herself to stay. If she skipped work, who knew if Winona would just fire her on the spot.

Seeing the new AC blasting cool air, her face lit up.

She handed one of the coffees to Winona. "Here you go."

Winona wasn't drinking anything cold, and she was avoiding caffeine during her pregnancy, so she slid the drink over to Killian.

"Thanks," Killian said to Karina.

Curious, Karina asked, "If you don't drink coffee, how do you stay so sharp all day?"

Killian looked over as well. "Yeah, you used to practically live on this stuff. Why the sudden detox?"

Winona naturally wasn't going to mention the pregnancy. She smiled smoothly. "I already had a cup at home."

Neither of them questioned it, accepting the excuse easily.

That evening, there was a mandatory business dinner, and Winona brought Karina along.

Because Mr. Harper was still recovering, either Winona or Killian had to attend meetings with corporate partners.

Whenever a toast was proposed, Karina stepped up and drank on Winona’s behalf. Thankfully, Karina had a high tolerance; a few glasses only gave her a slight flush.

While Winona was in the shower, Stefan dialed Karina's number.

Karina's head was spinning a bit, and she was just about to fall asleep when she answered. "Stefan? What's up?"

"I heard you took the drinks for Winona tonight."

"Yeah, I noticed she's been eating really clean lately, so I figured she was dealing with a stomach bug. I can hold my liquor better anyway, so it made sense for me to do it."

Stefan chuckled. "When we get back to Capital City, I'm buying you a luxury car. You can pick it out yourself."

Karina gasped. "Seriously?"

Then, her tone shifted, suddenly indignant. "Wait, are you being cheap with Winona? You're offering me a luxury car, but you let your girlfriend drive that completely average sedan? If you keep being this stingy, she's going to dump you."

Ever since becoming Winona's assistant, Karina had become a fierce loyalist, and she had no problem putting Stefan on blast to defend her boss.

Stefan found himself at a total loss for words.
