The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 666

Many of the attendees had been at the recent summit and recognized Winona's name instantly. Once again, they marveled at her exceptional talent for research.

Giselle was seething. Winona wasn't even in the room, yet she still managed to steal the spotlight.

Jealousy gnawed at her, and she opened her mouth to speak, but the industry leaders didn't even glance her way. They were too busy firing follow-up questions at Zack.

By the time the event wrapped up, Giselle's face was a dark, stormy mask.

Anyone with eyes could see she was in a foul mood, and everyone gave her a wide berth.

Dean Ziegler walked up to her. "I told you this presentation wasn't something you could just wing. If you want a future in this industry, relying on your father's connections isn't going to cut it."

Giselle didn't argue back, but she was entirely unconvinced.

She assumed the Dean was just being petty because she had pulled rank to get the spot, so he had orchestrated the tough questions to embarrass her. He seemed so noble on the surface, but he was obviously just a vindictive backstabber.

As soon as she got home, she called Sylvan to vent about the Dean.

She expected Sylvan to go to bat for her, completely unaware that he had watched the livestream of the presentation.

He frowned. "Your work ethic is appalling. You couldn't even answer a basic question. No wonder the Dean didn't want you up there. Focus on your actual job and stop embarrassing me."

To Sylvan, every investment required a return.

He poured resources into Giselle so she would produce results and make him look good.

Being reprimanded by Sylvan stung bitterly. She was reminded, yet again, that she wasn't his biological daughter. He could prop her up when he felt like it, and tear her down just as easily.
