When her son was old enough to marry, she had let him choose for himself. He had spent years in an on-and-off relationship with his first love, later married someone else, divorced, and eventually got back together with that same first love after her own divorce. It was a turn of events she hadn't anticipated. Still, she wouldn't criticize his choices. Even if she disliked certain things about her daughter-in-law, she would never show it.
Given the family he came from, she had assumed Stefan wouldn’t care whether a woman had been married before. Had she been mistaken?
Hearing Violet's words, Stefan smiled. "Grandma, you've misunderstood. I don't look down on Ms. Jowett in any way."
Though he appeared stern and proper to the outside world, his thinking was quite liberal. But marriage was a topic he and Violet would never see eye to eye on.
He stood up and put on his suit jacket. "Grandma, I have a function to attend. I'm heading out."
Seeing him leave mid-conversation, Violet grumbled, "If only you put even half as much effort into your love life as you do into work."

A colleague from the lab, Zev, was resigning, so the team organized a farewell dinner. Eloise invited Daphne, saying the more the merrier. In turn, Daphne brought Tallulah along.
The sight of Tallulah didn't faze Winona. She wasn't the one who had done something wrong, so why should she feel awkward?
Daphne, who already disliked Winona, deliberately spoke up in front of everyone. "I didn’t realize Winona had such good connections. She gets fired from our company over one mistake, and next thing you know, she’s working in Mr. Harper’s lab. Somebody must really be looking out for her."
"Daphne, it's all in the past. Just let it go," Tallulah said in a soft voice.
She had assumed that with Winona gone, Yulen's interest would fade. Instead, he seemed even more attentive to her.
She worried that if this continued, Winona would win him back. But she didn't dare pull a stunt like last time, fearing Yulen would find out and get angry. Unable to do anything, she felt frustrated, so her only recourse was to come and frustrate Winona.
She had expected Winona to be falling apart after leaving Yulen, so seeing her do well only made her even more bitter.
She picked up her glass of juice, casually flashing a large gemstone ring on her finger.
Daphne immediately noticed it. "Tallulah, is that a new ring? Did Mr. Locke give it to you?"
