Walking out of the airport, Wesley offered to share a cab.
Winona smiled politely. "No thanks, someone is picking me up."
Wesley felt it was a pity but didn't push. "Alright, then let's grab dinner sometime."
Winona nodded, got into Ezra's car, and sent Stefan a quick text on her messaging app saying she had arrived safely.
Stefan replied, "Great. I'll come back early tonight."
Winona went home, had lunch with Wynne, and headed to the lab in the afternoon.
Killian walked over to congratulate her. "Winona, I saw the news about your award. The reporter captured your angles perfectly; you looked gorgeous. You wouldn't believe it, but last night a few old classmates asked me if you were single. I told them you were taken, and they all said it was a huge shame."
Winona smiled modestly.
Before getting off work, Jericho Harper called her to his office.
"I'm having dinner with an old friend tonight. Why don't you join us?"
Seeing Winona's curious expression, Jericho explained. "He was my college professor. He taught at several universities before retiring a few years ago. His name is Chadwick Hewitt."
Winona had seen his name in textbooks.
Though Professor Hewitt had retired, he never stopped researching and still occasionally published highly specialized papers.
Hearing she was going to meet him, Winona felt eager.
Meeting industry veterans always offered new knowledge and inspiration.
She went to the restaurant with Jericho.
Entering the private room, she was surprised to find Wesley there too.
It clicked. Wesley had mentioned on the plane that his grandfather was a retired professor in pharmaceutical research.
All the pieces fit together.
To think he was Professor Hewitt's grandson.
What a small world.
