The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 763

The next morning, Stefan received a phone call from Sylvan Scully.

"Stefan, since you clearly can't give Winona a real future, stop wasting her time. She isn't getting any younger. I'm going to start setting her up with proper men for marriage, and I expect you to step aside."

Sylvan assumed that playing hardball would force Stefan's hand, pushing him to bring Winona into the Goddard family immediately. If it worked, he was more than ready to claim Stefan as his son-in-law.

But Stefan's reaction was entirely unexpected.

"Mr. Scully, I strongly suggest you stay out of our business," Stefan said, his tone turning glacial. "And if you're trying to push Wesley Hewitt on her, save your breath. She has zero interest in him."

Sylvan let out a mocking snort. "You're far too arrogant. My daughter just hasn't met enough high-caliber men. That's the only reason she's so mesmerized by you. Once she sees what else is out there, she'll realize she has better options."

Stefan let out a dark, cynical laugh. "So, your standard for marriage is just constantly weighing options and trading up for the highest bidder? The moment someone 'better' comes along, you just throw your partner in the trash?"

"Don't twist my words! I'm simply demanding that you give her a proper commitment. That is my right as her father!"

"And like I said, our timeline is our business. When we get married, and whether we move to the Goddard estate, is a decision for the two of us. It's wildly inappropriate for you to keep sticking your nose into things that don't concern you."

"You arrogant prick! Are you saying I have no say in my own daughter's life?" Sylvan roared, entirely losing his temper.

Stefan scoffed. "Why should parents get to dictate their child's life? Who she marries and when she marries is entirely her call. From where I'm sitting, you're the one being arrogant. If this is all you called to talk about, I'm done here."

Stefan hung up.

On the other end of the line, Sylvan was trembling with fury. He couldn't stand the man.

That night, Stefan recounted the conversation to Winona.

Her brow furrowed in deep disgust.

"Is he out of his mind? I have never, not once, acknowledged him as my father. He really loves to put on airs, doesn't he?"
