"Please, hurry and look for her," Winona pleaded with Ezra. "She's never been outside on her own before. She probably doesn't know how to find her way back."
Ezra nodded solemnly and organized the other bodyguards and the neighborhood security team to sweep the complex.
After an hour of agonizing waiting with no results, Winona's patience snapped. She grabbed an umbrella and went out into the storm to join the search.
Eventually, the heavy downpour reduced to a drizzle, though the wind remained fierce.
Frustrated, she collapsed the umbrella, pushing her way through the wet bushes, her eyes scanning the shadows.
When Stefan arrived home and was told they were scouring the grounds for the cat—and that Winona was out there with them—panic gripped him.
He found her quickly. Her hair and coat were soaked through. Thank God she hadn't slipped and fallen; the very thought made his blood run cold.
Seeing him, Winona looked up, her expression desperate. "Stefan, we still can't find her."
Stefan closed the distance in long strides, sweeping her up into his arms and carrying her toward their building.
"Go inside and change into dry clothes. I'll come back down and keep looking."
Exhausted and freezing, Winona didn't have the strength to argue. She went upstairs, took a hot shower, and changed.
Stefan made sure she drank a glass of warm water and personally blow-dried her hair before heading back out into the night.
It wasn't until midnight that he finally found the terrified feline huddled beneath a parked SUV in the underground garage.
Seeing the soaked, trembling animal staring up at him with wide, frightened eyes, Stefan's expression softened. He reached a hand out gently.
Blossom crept out from under the chassis and buried herself against his chest.
When Stefan returned, Winona was still awake, sitting anxiously on the sofa with Biscuit curled up beside her.
At the sound of the door unlocking, she looked up.
Seeing the damp bundle in his arms, tears welled in her eyes.
Stefan dried Blossom off with a towel, settled her into her bed, and set out a fresh bowl of food.
Biscuit immediately trotted over, sitting protectively beside the cat.
Slowly realizing she was safe, Blossom began to eat.
With both her pets finally safe and in sight, the heavy knot in Winona's chest loosened.
