Margaret scoffed, her eyes filled with disdain. "Raised in the middle of nowhere without a shred of class."
"You were raised with all the wealth in the world, yet you sneak around kidnapping other people's children without their permission. Is that what you call class?"
Margaret choked on her anger. "She is my granddaughter! Am I not allowed to see her?"
"Did I marry into your family? Is my daughter on your family register? If you want to claim her as your granddaughter, did you ever think to ask for my permission?" Winona fired back, mirroring Margaret's hostile tone perfectly.
The terror of having Audrey snatched from her home had obliterated whatever thin veneer of politeness Winona had left. She didn't care about being diplomatic anymore. She aimed to draw blood.
She and Margaret were never going to get along anyway, so they might as well strip away the pleasantries.
Margaret took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down. She hadn't come here just to trade insults.
She offered Winona a saccharine smile. "Do you know why I invited you to lunch today? I want you to see with your own eyes what kind of woman actually deserves Stefan. Right now, he's in the private dining room next door, having lunch with Ms. Liana Linden. She is a true lady from an elite family—nothing like an uncultured brat like you.
"You think keeping your kid off our family register hurts us? We don't even want her! Once Stefan dumps you, I'm going to have him marry Liana."
She expected the revelation to crush Winona, but Winona's face remained utterly impassive, leaving Margaret deeply unsettled.
Winona took a sip of her water before replying calmly, "Stefan isn't a puppet you can just play with."
"Don't be so confident. Look at you—you just had a baby. Do you honestly think Stefan doesn't find your post-pregnancy body repulsive? Men will always prefer an eighteen-year-old girl."
Margaret was deliberately trying to body-shame her.
Winona had stopped taking her hormone medications and had lost some weight since the birth, though she hadn't fully returned to her pre-pregnancy figure. It baffled her how a woman—especially a mother—could weaponize something so natural against another woman.
