"I don't run a charity," Winona said coolly. "Besides, what you consider a tiny favor is completely crossing the line for me."
Liana left, her face a portrait of disappointment.
That evening, Winona and Stefan took little Audrey back to Riverton.
Hearing that Liana had dropped by again, Stefan asked, "What did she say to you?"
Winona chuckled. "She gave me a sob story about how pitiful her life is and begged me to convince you to give her the title of Mrs. Goddard."
"And what did you tell her?" Stefan frowned, clearly disgusted by the woman's audacity.
Winona linked her arm through his. "No matter how tragic Ms. Linden's life is, I can't agree to something like that. You're my man. I don't share."
Stefan smiled, leaning in to capture her lips. He loved her possessiveness. It made him feel like he was the center of her world.

On Thursday evening, Stefan attended a business dinner. His brow furrowed the moment he saw his mother, Margaret, making a grand entrance with Liana by her side.
It was obvious Margaret was trying to mold Liana into the next Ophelia Powell.
As the two women approached, Stefan's expression turned glacial.
