"Mr. Yarwood, I'd like to hire you for a case," Winona said, getting straight to the point as she stood before Hayes.
Hayes had assumed the beautiful woman approaching him was there to flirt. When he realized it was about a case, his interest waned slightly.
Still, he maintained his professional courtesy and listened intently as Winona explained the situation. Just as he was about to politely decline, he felt a flicker of recognition. He had seen her face somewhere before.
Then it hit him.
He had been visiting Violet at the Goddard Manor, and she had shown him a photograph, telling him this was the wife she had found for Stefan. He had only caught a glimpse, but her gentle eyes and refined, elegant features had stuck in his memory.
Violet had also mentioned that Stefan had helped Winona on several occasions.
If that was the case, then out of respect for his friendship with Stefan, he really ought to help her.
He took out his business card and said with a gentlemanly air, "This case doesn't seem too difficult for me, but I'll need more details. You can come to my office tomorrow."
Winona hadn't expected him to agree so readily, and a look of delighted surprise lit up her face. "Thank you so much, Mr. Yarwood."
Rhea was equally thrilled for her. A colleague had warned her that Hayes was eccentric and only took cases that personally interested him. She had worried he would refuse, but he had agreed without hesitation.
Yulen arrived just in time to overhear their conversation. Winona was actually hiring Hayes to handle Helena's case.
He grabbed Winona's wrist and sneered, "Do you really think I wouldn't do everything in my power to help Helena? We're husband and wife. Don't you have even that little bit of trust in me?"
Hayes understood now. Yulen was two-timing. He spoke up, "Mr. Locke, you can rest assured, I'll take this case and resolve it quickly."
Yulen shot him an icy glare, his expression turning visibly cold. "That won't be necessary, Mr. Yarwood. I will find the best lawyer for my wife."
But Hayes, who came from a wealthy family himself and practiced law out of interest, wasn't the least bit intimidated. He retorted sarcastically, "If you had truly done that, why would she have come to me? And another thing..."
He looked toward Tallulah, a taunting glint in his eye. "Mr. Locke, why don't you tell everyone here and now who, exactly, is your wife? This ambiguity of yours is breaking your own wife's heart and, frankly, makes me question your character."
Yulen was stunned by his aggressive questioning and found himself unable to form a rebuttal.
Rhea seized the opportunity. "That's right, Mr. Locke. Didn't you say you only love Winona? Why not introduce her to everyone tonight?"
