Tallulah stood beside them, digging her nails into her palms, her eyes burning with rage.
Winona, however, remained completely serene, as if the entire conversation had nothing to do with her.
She knew Yulen wouldn't, couldn't, do it. She knew better than anyone who weighed more heavily in his heart, and it wasn't her.
Yulen glanced at Winona, a flicker of disappointment in his eyes. She used to be so accommodating, always taking his feelings into account and never forcing him into uncomfortable situations. But tonight, she was allowing Hayes to speak to him this way.
If they stayed any longer, he feared Hayes would say something even more damaging to his reputation. "Winona, we'll talk at home," he said, his tone final. "I will handle Helena's case."
Winona remained silent, acting as if she hadn't heard him.
A dull frustration settled in Yulen's chest. He had no choice but to leave with Tallulah.
After they were gone, Hayes turned to Winona. "Yulen's character is questionable. I think you should leave him sooner rather than later. As for your case, I can definitely win it for you."
Winona managed a small smile. "Thank you, Mr. Yarwood."
Of course, she wanted to leave Yulen. Once Helena's case was over, she would find the right moment to make things clear with him.
Their relationship should have ended long ago. If he refused, she was prepared to go public with the story of their fraudulent marriage. It would be mutually assured destruction, and she was ready for it.

That night, Winona didn't go back to Yulen's house. She went to her own apartment.
Yulen called her several times, but she didn't answer. She no longer wanted to beg for his help. She would find a way to handle her aunt's case herself.
Maybe she never should have turned to him in the first place. How could she expect someone so cold-hearted, someone who had hurt her so many times, to genuinely help her and her aunt?

The next day, Winona went to Hayes's law firm.
Dressed in black, he carried himself with such effortless polish that nearby diners couldn’t help staring.
"Ms. Jowett." He saw Winona without a hint of surprise, greeting her naturally.
He had just flown into Riverton from the capital that morning. After a project briefing, he had accepted Hayes's invitation for lunch, never expecting to run into Winona.
"You hired Hayes for a lawsuit?" he asked, his perception as sharp as ever. "Are you in some kind of trouble?"
Winona didn't try to hide it and told him everything about Helena's situation.
Stefan paused in thought for a moment before saying, "Don't worry about it. I'll have someone make a copy of the records for you. It's a simple matter."
Winona's eyes widened in surprise. "Really?"
If Stefan was willing to help, it would be a godsend.
