Winona gave him a curt nod.
The next morning, the factory manager was horrified to hear what had happened. Furious, he kicked the disgraced guard out the door himself and officially handed him over to the police.
The rain had finally stopped. Refusing to linger a second longer than necessary, Winona flanked Ezra and headed straight for the parking lot.
The ground was a swamp of mud and puddles. She marched right through the muck in her white sneakers without a single complaint.
Walking behind her, Shiloh realized just how uniquely captivating this woman was. Every beautiful woman he had ever known was delicate, high-maintenance, and fragile. Winona was razor-sharp, unshakable, and completely unfazed by getting her hands dirty.
For the first time, a genuine, undeniable flutter ignited in his chest.
He forcefully shoved the feeling down.
Once they hit the city limits, Winona and Shiloh parted ways.
During his drive, his phone rang. It was Candida.
"...Wait, you were stranded at a remote factory overnight? Why didn't you make a move? Shiloh, you're incredibly charming. You've always had women eating out of your hand. If you just applied a little pressure, you could definitely make Winona fall for you."
Candida absolutely loathed seeing Wynne's daughter thrive. If Shiloh could drive a wedge between Winona and Stefan, it would be the ultimate victory.
Shiloh's grip on the steering wheel tightened as the image of Winona's icy, fearless stare from last night flashed through his mind. His heart skipped a beat.
He owed Candida everything for funding his education. He had fully intended to play along, orchestrate a fake seduction, and ruin Winona's marriage just to repay the debt.
But he had drastically miscalculated. He was the one falling for her.
Frustrated, he ran a hand through his hair, didn't say a word, and hung up.
